I woke up today by coughing on the smoke fire from last night. It was still in the air. But it wasn't as intense as yesterday. I looked for Chase which he wasn't connected to his leash. And Jase was no where to be found. I began to panick. What if those people got them? But that wouldn't make since for they would have left me here, on the bed, where I'm perfectly visible. Unless they thought I was dead. But then all of a sudden I here a knock at the door and I froze.
I couldn't move, to many things were running through my head. I couldn't hide either, because the house is one big room. I thought maybe my closet but then they might hear noise and know that I was definitely in here. So I got on my belly and crawled to my bed and slid under. The knocking only got louder and louder each pound. Then I heard my name being whispered.Remi. Open the door it's me Jase.
I wasn't sure. But I walked to the door and looked through the peek hole. His eye was bruised and his arm was severely cut. Chase was on his shoulder shaking. But he looked unharmed. I opened the door and without knowing threw my arms around him. In which he moaned in agony.
Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry. Come in, what happened to you two? I asked while pulling his hand and shutting the door behind me.
I heard something outside the door. So I went outside to check it out. Then this guy came out of nowhere and cut me with his pocket knife. Then we started fighting, that's how I got my bruised eye. I guess Chase is smart enough to know that something was wrong because I noticed little rocks being thrown at us. I wasn't sure who it was until I knocked the man out. I think he was planning to tie me up. There was a large thing of rope on him. So I tied him to a tree quite far from here I guess.
Are you okay? You didn't get any sleep last night.
Yes I'm fine. And I got maybe an hour or two.
Is it safe to stay here? What do they want with us?
Don't ask me. I know as much as you do. And that's technically nothing. All we honestly know is that they aren't friendly.
Should we leave, and find some place safe? I asked while getting some hot water to put on Jase's wound.
I'm no expert but I guess we should. But not now. At night. We pack now. Okay? He said while grabbing my hands and smiling a fake smile.
Okay. I smiled back.
We packed all day. We ate as much as we could now. So that if something went wrong we wouldn't be starving by midnight. We slept for about 5 hours. Before we began our long journey to no where.
Oh, Jase about last night when I looked outside. I saw everyone on their knees. And my par--
I'm so sorry you had to see that. He said while bowing his head
No, they weren't hurt. They were sitting in chairs smiling and laughing away. I said kind of ashamed.
Who was? What do you mean?
My parents.
Then there was screaming outside. Tons of yelling, it almost seemed unreal. It was already about 10pm and the sun had already setted.
Now? I asked.
Yeah I guess so. He grabbed my hand, and he helped Chase onto his shoulder.
Be quiet, we can't see them but that doesn't mean that they can't see or sense us. He looked at me one last time then opened the door and pulled on my hand.
We walked for quite some time. Until we heard some talking. We hid by a large tree trunk, which was infested with spiders. I wanted to scream or run, but I had to keep calm. One crawled on me. But Jase was fast enough to flick it off and cover my mouth.
Chase took off into the wilderness. It was okay because that was one less thing we had to think of, as mean as it sounds. It felt like forever until the two men left. Jase was on guard the whole time. He looks handsome when he's in a serious mood.
We walked for some hours I guess, I can't tell time. Without a clock or watch. But I guess Jase can. You know, like how you tell the time by where the shadows from the sun are. Or where the sun is in the sky or something like that.Jase! Over here. I waved my hands for him to come over to me. He was picking some fruit off of some bushes.
What? And keep quiet, that was really loud. He said
Oh, sorry... But look I found a little cave. We can sleep here till sunrise. I said enthusiastically
Um. We'd have to check it out first, see if it's safe.
How? It's too dark, you said no fire. I said confused.
I know what I said and I'm not changing it. But we have to be quiet entering, if there is any noise we leave. He said
How are you all of a sudden a pro at all of this surviving stuff? I asked
Well... my dad I guess. He said looking down.
*Ruffling noise*
Both mines and Jases attention turned towards the noise in which it came from. Then we were on the ground. It happened so fast. I didn't even know what was holding us down until I started feeling around. It was a large net with thick rope.
Remi? I-- I thought. You were gone.
What!? I declared
It's your mother. I thought-- I thought you were gone dear.
What do you mean I was gone. I yelled. I couldn't even see her it was so dark now.
Never mind about that now. Where is Jase?
Under here. He sounded angry
Oh, oh dear. Release the net now! She declared.
Mom what is going on. Why are you giving orders.!? I still couldn't see her. I could see body figures but couldn't tell who was who.
Because dear. We are after all the ones who threatened to send the bombs. She said laughing.
What!? Wher-- where is dad? I panicked
Your father is a fool, and fools get special treatment.
Where is he? What did you do to him?!.. I yelled
Watch your tone little girl. Therefore you'll end up like your father.
This is my mother? What happened to her. I have no idea what is going on. Is she one of them is she in charge? She gives orders like she is. I want to know where my father is. The figures began to move towards me and Jase. But Jase grabbed my hand tightly.
On three, run.
To where, what if they have guns?
One, two three.
We began to run. I think it was a quiet enough escape. We heard the people say, HEY! Where are they? Get back here! We couldn't stop. Jase was still holding my hand. Then he stopped and I fell, but he still held my hand. He pulled me up and covered my mouth. I refused to try to ask questions, my eyes went wide when I also heard the roar.
