Juliet POV
My mouth fell open as I looked at the girl facing me. Her hair was pulled into a stylish bun with braids running through it and curly strands falling around her face. Her makeup was done natural, making her look beautiful. Her dress was absolutely flawless and her shoes- wow. I stared at the mirror breathlessly. I knew I was pretty, but I didn't think I could look this good. I heard someone clear their throat, and I turned around to see Nash standing there smiling at me.
"You look wonderful." He said, giving me a hug. I chuckled, pushing him back and checking out his suit.
"Damn boy you straightened up, huh" I joked, winking at him. He brushed off his shoulder, "I try." I laughed, shaking my head at him and linking arms with him. We walked downstairs just as the door bell rang. Nash smirked at me, and walked off to the kitchen. I took a deep breath, walking to the door and opening it. Matt was standing there in a tux, smiling once he saw me. I knew it was selfish, but half of me -actually all of me- wanted Cameron to be standing there in a tux waiting for me.
"Wow... You look..wow" he breathed, and I laughed pulling him inside.
"You look good to." I nodded, and he chuckled, twirling around. I laughed, and my mom came running down the stairs with a camera.
"Picture time!" She cheered. We both posed for a picture- or 20, and then Nash got in some of them. After she was done, we left.
"Finally" I muttered, "that woman doesn't know what enough means." Matt chuckled, interlocking our fingers together. I stared at them, before looking out the window. I looked behind us, realizing that the same black SUV had been trailing behind us since I left my house. I shook it off, not trying to over think it. I gulped quietly, I didn't want to over think anything, but something in the gut of my stomach told me tonight wasn't going to end well.
Cameron POV
I sighed deeply, trying to keep my cool as I ended the call with Mason, my best friend. He wasn't able to do one thing right, and now I didn't have the money I needed. I knew Maxwell would take her, and he would torture her making her beg for him to take her life. I knew the kinds of things he'd do to her, because he's done them to other innocent people right in front of me. He made me watch as he did unthinkable things to innocent woman, taking every ounce of the love they had for themselves, taking everything from them. It was disgusting and cruel, and I wanted no part of it anymore. Unfortunately, I owed him a large amount of money, and without that the one girl in my life that actually cares about me, and I care about, will get hurt. I never wanted to care for her, but it just happened.
"FUCK!" I yelled, running my hands threw my hair. I got up from the couch, storming to the basement where I kept his stuff. I searched through the boxes, before I found what I was looking for. I quickly went to my room, changing.
I'm coming baby girl.
Juliet POV
I looked around the huge room, trying to scan the crowd to look for Cameron. Matt was talking to Nash about something, his hand rested on my thigh. I couldn't see past the group of teenagers in front of me, so I excused myself from the table. I walked outside, and leaned against the wall as I took a deep breath. My prom was supposed to be fun and relaxing, yet all I wanted was to be with Cameron. I sighed and looked up, freezing when my eyes landed on the person walking towards the entrance. He hasn't seen me yet, as he was on the phone with someone. He looked absolutely stunning with his hair in a messy quiff, and the tux he had on made him look like the most important man in the world. I wanted to go say something to him, but before I could Matt was suddenly by my side.
"Let's go dance." He said, grabbing my arm and pulling me inside. I glanced back at Cameron, to see him stuffing his phone in his pocket, running a hand through his hair. He looked annoyed and worried. I wanted to know why he looked that way, and what happened, but instead I was being dragged inside to dance. I turned around as a sigh escaped my lips.
I danced with Matt to the song thinking out loud. I wanted to just walk away, but that would be rude. I knew Cameron saw me, because I could feel his stare on me but when I looked, he'd quickly look somewhere else. I knew I was being to obvious with my glances towards him, but I couldn't help it. I heard a sigh, and then Matt stopped dancing. I almost tripped, but he caught me easily.
"What's wrong?" I asked, wondering why we stopped dancing. He wasn't looking at me, he was looking at something behind me, at him. I knew he was, because the way his face held anger and jealously. "Matt" I said, raising my eyebrows. Once his eyes met mine, they softened and became sad. I wanted to ask why he was sad, but I already knew. It was because of me.
"Just go." He whispered, dropping his hands from my waist. I stood there looking at him with a confused expression on my face. What?
"Matt, what are you saying?" I asked, stepping sway slightly so I could get a better look at him. His hurt-filled eyes flickered up to Cameron and then back at me. He studied my face, analyzing every inch of it. He then sighed, running a hand down his face.
"I know you want to go to him, so go. I don't want to stop you from going to the guy that makes you happy." He said, stuffing his hands in his pockets. I bit my lip, and glanced back at Cameron. He was watching us intently, but then looked away once I looked. A smile formed on my lips, and I turned back around.
"I'm sorry Matt." I whispered, kissing his cheek. I began to walk away, when I heard him call out to me.
"Juliet" he said, and I turned around looking at him, "it was always him, wasn't it?" He asked though he already knew the answer to that question. I just sent him a weak smile, and walked to the table Nash was at. I sat down beside him, and leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Love sucks" I muttered.
"Your like 5 shut up don't talk about love." He chuckled, drinking his soda. "This is really bad pop" he groaned, scrunching his nose up. I laughed at the fact that he just said 'pop'. I looked over at him, but he was looking at something behind me. I furrowed my eyebrows, and turned around. Cameron was standing there, watching me.
"May I take this dance" He asked, holding his hand out. I smiled, and nodded letting him take my hand. He brought us to the dance floor, and we swayed back and forth in perfect rhythm.
"You look beautiful, by the way." He whispered in my ear, sending butterflies through my stomach.
"Thanks, you don't look so bad yourself." I teased, a smile on my lips.
"Ah come on, I look better than 'not so bad'" he whined playfully. I was happy. In this moment, I was happy and I didn't think anything could change that.
But I was wrong.
Because in those two seconds that I spent looking at Cameron, a gun shot went off and screams erupted throughout the whole room. I didn't know what to do, but the first thing that came to my mind was the black SUV that I could have sworn was following me just hours before. Another gun shot went off, and that time I screamed, clutching onto Cameron. I looked up at him, expecting to see him looking surprised or scared, but what I saw made me flinch back, staring at him with wide eyes. He had a gun in his hand, looking around the room frantically, as if he were looking for someone. I took a couple steps back, and he seemed to notice as he walked towards me. He held his hand out, but I flinched, getting terrified to be near him.
"Do you trust me?" He asked softly. The room suddenly became quiet to me, nothing was there except Cameron. Nothing mattered except him. I knew I shouldn't have done what I did next, but I nodded, walking to him. He held tightly onto me, pushing past teenagers trying to run out, and to the back door. When we finally got out, he pulled me down a dark alley. I gulped, looking around terrified at the fact that I was in an alley with a guy that had a gun, alone.
"Whe-where are we going?" I asked trying to sound calm, but instead it came out as a whimper. He looked back at me, and sighed running a hand through his hair.
"Somewhere you'll safe."
