Anakin looped around the roller coaster road, making Riley shift everywhere. I held onto him tightly, trying to not screw him up. He could get sick. Really sick. Like puke all over Jett and me.
"You're awfully close to him," Jett turned his head to me. "Why is that?"
I shrugged. "He's nice."
"I mean, I know you two have this thing, but...I didn't think it meant to be extremely close."
I looked down at poor Riley. "It doesn't, but we're close because...we don't want to get separated again." I brushed my fingers through his hair. It was sweaty. I suppose that means his fever broke. Or it was getting worse.
"Oh. Well, I like how you two are close. I wish my sister and I were close."
I turned back to Jett. "You don't have a sister."
"Exactly."
I rolled my eyes. "Did you tell Sophie we were leaving?"
"Shoot." He pulled out his phone and his thumbs danced across the screen. "Yup. Sure did."
"You're so retarded sometimes."
He shrugged. "Well, you know. I try."
I shook my head and looked back down at Riley. "Anakin, how far away are we?"
"A couple more miles. Is he doing alright?"
Riley twiched his head. He moaned. My eye looked through his body. I could see infection in his stomach. "No," I told Anakin.
Spence turned around and took Riley's hand. She looked up at me. "I'm sorry," she mouthed.
I nodded.
Jett's phone beeped. "She's pissed."
"Why?"
"Because we left her there all alone."
"Tell her to grab a bike and meet us at the ER!" I demanded.
"Alright, alright! Calm your tits, woman!"
I sighed. "I'm sorry. I just don't want her mad because Riley's freakin' dying over here."
Riley spoke in my mind. The doctors mustn't know that we're twins, Bry. We're cousins, okay? I don't want them to test on the both of us.
I asked aloud, "You sure?"
He nodded his head barely. Testing on me is enough as it is. They don't need to test you. You're too...important. More important than I am.
I shook my head. "That's not true, Ry."
Slowly, his hand rose and his index finger covered my lips. You know it is. I'll be fine. You know I will. I always am.
I sighed. I knew he wasn't done.
In the past couple of weeks I've gotten to know you, I know you're much more important than me. But you know what? That means I get to be the brother that kicks your ex boyfriends' asses when they break your heart. I mean, you can love now, Bry. We're out of the agency. I know you're thinking about going back. Don't. Live the life you have. I wasted eighteen years there.
"Don't talk like that," I told him. "You sound like you're going to die today."
He shrugged, dropping his hand back down onto his chest. So? I probably will be stuck there for awhile, and I should probably get this out now. But still, I'll kick those boys all the way to China if I have to.
I half smiled.
Anakin stopped the car. He turned. "He's okay?"
I looked down at him. "He doesn't feel okay, but his mind seems pretty okay. He sorta sounds like Jett when he's high."
