Draco woke up from a sleepless night, and rubbed his tired eyes. He was exhausted, but got up from his bed, as he was starving.

Throwing on some clothes, he ruffled his hair until he thought himself decent.
When he passed through the common area to leave, he noticed a figure in the corner of the room, smiling.

"Where are you going, dear?"

"Away from you, Pansy."

He spat her name, disgusted by it. She simply laughed.

"You know, Draco, you can always come back to me."

It was his turn to laugh.

"Why would I want to?"

She shrugged, but he could see she was suddenly uneasy and nervous.

He stormed out of the dungeon, away from her. She made him feel angry, and he needed to see Hermione. As he rushed into the Great Hall, he couldn't help but feel dissapointed when she was nowhere to be found.

Maybe she just needs a little time.

He nodded to himself, after all, he had just confessed something really big. His heart rate increased, and his palms grew sweaty. What if she'd reject him?

-

Hermione lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. She had gone numb, and had lost the will to do anything. She kept thinking back to his words.

It was all fake. I don't want to be anywhere near a mudblood like you.

A tear rolled down her cheek as she thought of the moments they had been through. In the library, when he smiled at her and teased her. Was that all part of his game?

She didn't even notice Ginny approaching her.

"Mione, get up. You can't miss class because of him. It's not worth it."

Hermione unwillingly climbed out of bed, her mind somewhere else. Ginny's insides churned with rage when she saw the state of her friend. If she saw that little ferret, he would die.

Thankfully, their first class wasn't with him. She couldn't bear facing the boy.

-

Draco strolled through the hallway, looking around for her. Even if he was scared to see her reaction, it was even worse if she wasn't there at all.

His eyes widened when he saw the red-haired weasel walking ahead with Hermione, and he started running.

Placing his hand on her shoulder, he spun her around, only to be faced with tear stained eyes filled with horror. She pulled away, looking at him with pain and disgust.

Was it because of me?

Ginny interrupted.

"Haven't you done enough, you idiotic, cruel being! How dare you come near her after what you did!"

Draco's eyes held a look of confusion and frustration. What was going on?

People turned to them in the hallway, chattering, making up new rumours.

"What... did I do?"

He stammered, intimidated by the Weasley.
She looked at him with pure hatred.

"Don't act like you don't know!"

She stormed off, pulling the now sobbing Hermione with her. Draco watched them with disbelief.

Is this how she felt when he told her he loved her? Was this her reaction?
He swallowed the lump that was forming in his throat, he didn't want to cry in public.

She didn't love him back after all.

He ran the other direction, back into the dungeon. He had never felt so alone.
