The weeks passed and soon Celebwen was on her feet again. She had regained her former strength and stamina and seemed much like she had before her capture, but yet something was different. Somehow she had changed though many could not figure out what, not even Elrond himself. She had not changed in looks and not much in personality either. Yet something had changed, though what, was still incomprehensible.

March came with the usual rain and strong breezes that smelled strongly of earth, spring, and new life. Flowers that bloomed solely in spring began sprouting up all over the place. Only the Rivendell roses, which bloomed all year round, remained, their delicate beauty untarnished by the stinging winds of winter.

Celebwen looked out across the valley from the balcony where she stood. The rain dripped down and the wind was a little chill, but much warmer than the last few days. She pulled her cloak closer to herself. Footsteps echoed across the corridor and she looked up to see her brother Elladan coming. She smiled and he responded in like kind.

"How are you feeling today?" he asked, reaching her side.

She threw her head back and laughed. When she had regained her composure she said, "You say that every day. I'm not going to get well if you continue to do so." Then she added seriously, "Personally, I think I'm as fine as I'll ever be."

"What do you mean?" he asked cautiously, almost fearfully.

She looked at him. His face was unusually pale. She knew what he was thinking. "No, I don't mean in that respect. Quite the contrary. I don't think I will ever depart to Valinor for that reason."

He looked relieved and then asked, puzzled, "Then what do you mean?"

Her face wore a grave look and her voice was low, quiet, with an undertone that sounded almost fierce. When she spoke in answer to his question, the words were bitter. "When I was imprisoned in Dol Guldur and would not cooperate to the dark Lord's demands, he tried to poison me with the liquid that orcs sometimes put on their weapons. But I think because Mother had been poisoned before my birth, that somehow I was born immune to it, for seemingly it had no effect on me. Then he tried using an older, more evil poison. It obviously worked, for I have been sick ever since. Now I believe that any amount of that foul stuff will have no effect on me."

"Are you sure?"

"Quite." She smiled now and said, "Come, let us talk of better things." They walked off and Elladan told her the doings that happened between that last time they had been together and now.

The rains ceased and the daylight hours were considerably brightened by the appearence of warm spring sunshine. Elrohir soon joined them at the weapon grounds near the armoury and they practiced. With much laughter and jests, the afternoon wore off swiftly much the the regret of the trio.
