"Alright, everyone to bed, ASAP. There will be an attendant outside who will lead you to your quarters." General Kyle said, making his way into the room. "Also, because of the urgency of this mission, your training will begin tomorrow. Goodnight everyone." He added before walking out of the room and disappearing down the hall.
We all did as instructed and made our way out into the hallway. There was a lady there who had on a full white outfit and a clip board in her right hand. She lead us all through the base and to another hallway. This hallway was short and it only had five doors, two on the left and right sides, and one on the end. A sign hung on the wall that said Residency Hall C.
The attendant looked down at her clip board. She read off our names that were then followed by our room numbers.
"Charlie room C-1, Claire room C-2, Max room C-3, Reece room C-4, and, Tara room C-5." She put the clipboard under her arm and looked back up at the five of us. "The bathrooms are around the corner and down the hall if you need them. If you need anything else, Base Services are back by the conference rooms. With that, goodnight." She said with a smile. She turned around and disappeared down the other hallway.
Silence filled the air as the five of us looked at each other. Everyone then dispersed, going to their rooms.
My room was a plain shade of white, with a gray carpet. There was a bed against the wall that had white bedding on it and two nightstands next to it, both made of the same wood as the bed. A dresser sat against the wall on the left and a desk and office chair sat against the wall to the right. Overall, the room seemed pretty put together and everything blended well; except for the black duffle bag on the bed.
The bag had a white note stuck to it with my name written on it. I pulled the white paper off the bag and unfolded it. The note read-
Tara, in this bag are some supplies recovered from your home. There's also some other essentials to make you feel comfortable here.
I tossed the note on the bed and began to unzip the bag. It contained some clothing items from my dresser at home, other things like a toothbrush, a hairbrush, etc. I mostly just skimmed through the bag, pulling the items out and tossing them on my bed; but one thing caught my attention. I pulled the item from the bag and began to examine it. It was a golden locket that belonged to the person I missed most: my mother. With a flick, the locket popped open to reveal a picture of my mother and I from when I was eleven. She looked the same in that picture as she had this morning.
I closed the locket, holding back the tears as I remembered her face; as I remembered I would never see it again. Then, I hung the locket on one of the dresser handles and began to unpack all of my things. Once I had finished settling in, I got changed into a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt and sat on the side of the bed.
My mind was swarming with thoughts and emotions, but I was too tired to process anything. Turning off the lights, I laid down, hoping to get some sort of sleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"Rise and shine!" I heard General Kyle call. My eyes opened, trying to adjust to the light that was coming in through the window. Slowly, I sat up, rubbing the two hours of sleep I got from my eyes. The events from yesterday played over and over again in my head, throughout the night. It was like an ongoing nightmare that I couldn't wake up from.
I walked across the room, over to the dresser. After scanning over all the clothing items, I decided to go with a pair of black leggings, a black tank top, and a black jacket that the base had all provided me with. Once I was dressed, I put my shoes on and made my way out of my room and to the bathroom, where I finished getting ready.
