Chapter 8

The royals and crew all stood spread out across the deck looking out at the Dark Island ahead of us. Everyone was silent as we stared at the island afraid for the journey ahead of us.

"So, what do you think is in there?" Tavros asked next to me.

"Our worst nightmares," I said quietly.

"Our darkest wishes," Caspian added.

"Pure evil," Peter answered.

"Tavros, unlock the armory," Drinian ordered.

"My lord."

"Archers, prepare yourselves," he shouted.

"Aye, Captain."

"Light the lanterns," Tavros said going down the stairs.

We all followed going under the deck to prepare ourselves for what was ahead. I sat on the bed leaning back against the wall. Gael came in and sat at the edge beside me staring at Lucy as she fixed her hair in the mirror.

"When I grow up I want to be just like you," Gael told her.

Lucy smiled at her through the mirror and turned around walking across the room to sit next to her. She put her arm around Gael, "When you grow up, you should be just like you." I smiled at them. As we finished getting ready I walked out on deck once we got closer to the island. As everyone got ready Caspian stood on the Captain's deck looking down below at all of us.

"No matter what happens here, every soul who stands before me has earned their place in the crew of the Dawn Treader. Together we have travelled far, together we have faced adversity and together, we can do it again," he said as a few crewmen shouted, "So now is not the time to fall to fierce temptations. Be strong, never give in. Our world, our Narnian lives depend on it. Think of the lost souls we are here to save. Think of Aslan. Think of Narnia."

"For Narnia!" One of the crew yelled.

I glanced at Peter who was still looking at Caspian as everyone else cheered around us. He finally found me across the deck making eye contact.

"I'm sorry," he mouthed with sorrow in his eyes, "I love you."

"I love you too," I said back. The crew men were all going around shaking hands and hugging so I couldn't make it to Peter he tried as well but no such luck. He pointed to the Captain;s deck and I ran towards it pushing some people out of the way. Finally he gestured for me to follow him under the deck and I got to the door on the side of the ship I was on and bounded down the stairs. I turned the corner and there he stood at the end of the hallway. I ran to him and we met in the middle as Peter lifted me of the ground as I hugged him.

"I'm so sorry, Eleanor," he said into my hair as I nuzzled my face into his neck

"No, it's my fault," I answered as he sat me down on my feet before leaning down and kissing me passionately.

"We'll get through this together," he said pulling away.

I nodded, "And after this I'll come to America."

"I can't wait," he smiled hugging me once more.

We spent a few moments alone thinking of what was ahead then walked onto the deck where the air around us was covered in a dark mist and glowing green. I looked up to Caspian who was hugging Susan and he kissed her forehead as they smiled at each other. They were all saying their goodbyes as we sailed into the island not knowing what their outcome was going to be. Eustace flew above us with Reepicheep as the mist started to float throughout the ship. Everyone was silent as our worst nightmares appeared before us. I grabbed Peter's hand as we went farther and farther into the mist but he wasn't there, "Peter?" I looked around but he wasn't near me, "Peter, where are you?" I asked starting to panic as everyone slowly disappeared on the boat. Suddenly there were a pair of hands on my face and everyone appeared again including Peter who was holding my face.
