All the way from California to Hawaii, Maya made it one piece. She was thankful, considering she hates planes and heights. She could tolerate it, but she was still afraid."Maya!" A voice Maya knew all too well shouts from a distance.
"Hey Auntie Karen." Maya replies to the woman. Her Aunt Karen was definitely a second mom, except she was a bit more fun.
"How've you been?"
"I've been alright, how are you?"
"Great! Now that my favorite niece is here." The older woman responds, swinging an arm around Mayas' shoulder.
"Where's uncle Jack and the kids?" Maya looks up curiously at her aunt, while they walk out of the airport and to the vehicle.
Her Aunt pauses for a moment then speaks, "He's at work, but he'll be at the house in about two or three hours, and the kids are actually still in school."
Maya simply nods her head and they continue to the car. They put all Mayas' belongings in the back, and they begin to drive to the house that Maya will be calling home for the next two and a half months.
Forty minutes of traffic, and buying McDonald's. They finally arrive at the house, except this house is definitely not the same one from the last time she was here.
"Did you guys move and not tell me?" Maya says smiling looking at the tropical scenery that the house looked over.
"I wanted it to be a surprise. Isn't it way better than the last one?" Maya immediately agreed to her statement. The house was set on one of Hawaiis' heavenly mountains.
It was a long wide one story, the outside was a very light blue, and had a white flat rooftop. There were trees surrounding the driveway to make it look more secluded, which Maya seemed to like very much.
"Let's take your things inside, and follow me to your room." Maya nodded, and helped bring her luggage inside.
Once inside, everything was immaculate. Perfect garnet kitchen on the right, the living room with white couches, and a huge television hanging on the vanilla creamed wall. And from what Maya could see from the glass doors, an enormous backyard. Maya wonders; since when did they get rich?
"Are you guys not telling me something?" Maya asks her Aunt as they make their way to Mayas room.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean," Maya starts, huffing air out from carrying the heavy suitcase "Last time I was here, the house you guys were living in was, well, a mess. And now you guys are living in a pure paradise." Her aunt just laughs at her statement.
"Well, your uncle was promoted in his job and works a lot more now. I also sell furniture now, so therefore we can afford things better now."
"Well that explains it."
Her aunt opens the door to Mayas' new bedroom, and Maya already started observing the room.
A big window on the far wall overlooking the backyard. Her bed is all white and planted in the middle of the wall, and a white medium sized dresser with a television on it, and also a white desk. The walls were painted a light blue, Maya fell in love with the room. She also noticed her very own bathroom, and a small closet.
"Do you like it? I know you like white and blue." Her aunt questions, with her arms folded.
"I love it, it's great." Maya nodded assuringly.
"Good! Well get settled, and come on out when your ready."
With that, her Aunt leaves the room closing the room behind her. Maya takes a deep breathe and rubs her hands on her thighs. She starts unpacking, and setting things how she wants them.
Once she was done, she heads out to the living room to find her Aunt cutting fruit in the kitchen.
Maya pulls a chair out from the table and sits. "So how's uncle and my cousins?"
"They're doing much better," She starts putting mango slices in a bowl, "You remember how miserable they were in that other house. Now they're much happier, but they're still little brats."
Maya couldn't help but chuckle at her Aunts statement, suddenly she heard the front door open, she couldn't see who came in, but she heard familiar voices shouting.
"Speak of the little devils."
