03 || long time, no see

"Speak of the little devils."

Mayas' aunt mutters, causing her to chuckle.

"Where is she!?" A shockingly manlier voice shouted. Soon, the boy that the voice belonged to came around the corner.

"Maya! My favorite cousin, long time no see." The tall boy speaks to Maya, Maya getting up from her chair and embracing the male.

"Hey Joshua." Maya mutters into his shoulder, with a big smile on her face.
"Where's the little one?"

"I'm right here!" The petite girl frowns and shouts from behind the giant boy.

"Hi Jolene, how's my little munchkin doing?" Maya says picking up the small girl.

"I'm good! We got to do art today in school, and I made a fairy." Jolene says touching Mayas' hair.

Maya giggles at the younger female, "Good for you." Setting the girl down, Joshua started talking.

"So when did your flight come in?"

"About an hour ago." Maya answers the boy, sitting back down at the table.

"I cut up some fruit, here's a bowl Maya." Joshuas' mom smiles brightly to the three. Maya mutters a 'thank you' and gladly takes the tiny bowl and starts piling fruit in.

"Maya, do you wanna go outside and play with me? Or do you want to see my room? Do you wanna watch a movie! Oh, I know we can-" The small girl starts listing things off, but was interrupted by her mother.

"Jewels, Maya is probably tired from her flight, and probably wants to rest a bit. Maybe later, okay?" Aunt Karen says to the small girl, using the nickname they've called her since she was tinier.

"Fine." The small girl pouts. Maya assuringly tells the girl that she will play with her later, and Jolene smiles and runs off doing who knows what.

"I need go do the laundry, Maya go get some rest dear." Aunt Karen reassures the girl. Maya nods and responds, "Will do."

"So what have you been up to? Still up to your little schemes and what not?" The older male speaks with a grin on his face, leaning over the counter.

Maya playfully rolls her eyes, "Very funny, I don't do that crap anymore."

"And why not?"

"Because, I've finally matured into a lady."

Joshua laughed at Mayas' reply. "You? A lady? You've still got that humor Maya, glad to see it hasn't gone away."

"Shut up, and might I say, you're voice has gotten a hell of a lot deeper. Have you finally hit puberty?" Maya retorts, staring at the almost eighteen year old boy.

"Well thanks for noticing, but I hit puberty a long time ago my dear cousin." Joshua says, attempting to flex his non existent biceps.

Maya chuckles, and puts down her fruit bowl. "Don't hurt yourself." Joshua chuckles along with her comment and sighs.

"You know, we've really missed you and your parents around here. Too bad they couldn't make it this summer." Joshua states.

"It feels like I haven't been here in forever, and yeah, maybe they can visit for a week or something." Maya responds to Joshua, while she plays with the ends of her hair.

"Well now we've you get here for two months all to ourselves! How great is that?" Joshua cheers, putting a fist up.

"Yay, so great." Maya responds sarcastically. Joshua gives her a serious look, then chuckles anyway lightly shoving her.

"We should go the beach later. If you're up for it."

"Let's go tomorrow, I just wanna rest today."

"Alright, sounds good to me, except I have to leave to go to guitar lessons at some point. So you can either stay down there by yourself, or just come back to the house, and be by yourself for like two hours."

"Hm, we'll just see how tomorrow goes."
Maya scratches her head. Joshua nods, and puts his and Mayas' bowls in the sink.
"Alright, go get some rest." Joshua comments, ruffling Mayas' hair.

"Don't tell me what to do." Maya scoffs, but a smile on her face.

"Shut up and go sleep Maya." Joshua laughs, sitting down on the couch in the living room.

Maya laughs' echoes from the hallway as she makes her way to her room. She closes the door behind her, and flops down on the bed. Taking off her shoes, and getting her phone out of her bag.

She texted her mom, telling her she's okay and she made it safely. She plugs it into the charger, and lies down on the bed. Falling fast asleep.
