Hagrid had disappeared, one of the train assistants called him a foolish boy, and he had no idea how to get to platform 9 & 3/4. Panic began to settle in Harry until he saw a flash of slightly familiar white-blonde hair speed by him. Hurrying to turn his cart, he set off to follow the boy who he met in Madam Maulkin's in Diagon Alley, though he wasn't too keen on asking him for help, due to his more than rude attitude.
"Excuse me?" He called out timidly, hoping to capture at least one of the family member's attention. To his relief, the young boy paused his travel and turned abruptly to face him. "Can you tell me how to get to Platform 9 & 3/4? It's my first year going to Hogwarts, and I've never been taught you to... well..."
The blonde boy furrowed his brow before quirking one of them. "I suppose. Follow me." He waited for Harry to step alongside him. "I remember you; we met briefly in the robes shop! I didn't properly introduce myself. I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." He pronounced his first name with pride.
"Oh, I'm Harry Potter." He smiled back, taking no notice to Draco's slight falter in his steps.
"Wow!" Draco grinned happily. "You hear that, mum? This is Harry Potter!" The woman nodded her head in mock acknowledgement, which left Draco a tiny bit more glum than moments before. "Anyways, what House do you hope to be in? I'm gonna be a Slytherin."
"I can choose?" Harry inquired, leaving out the fact that he had no idea what the Houses were or even meant. He swerved slightly as to not hit a passing stranger before Draco answered him.
"Well, we get sorted, but my whole entire family had been in Slytherin so I've got to live up to the family name!" He puffed his chest out slightly.
"Oh." Harry finished simply as the four of them stopped just in front of a brick wall. "Well... Where's the train?"
Draco furrowed his brow again and laughed. "Through there, obviously." He pointed at the wall. Now Harry was even more confused, and catching this confusion, Draco added, "You run through it. Muggles are too oblivious to notice if we go one or two at a time. I'll show you."
Draco stepped back a few paces before running speedily at the barrier. In a matter of moments, he vanished through the bricks. Harry, mustering up his courage, drew back just as Draco had and shut his eyes as he ran. When he opened them, it was to the sight of wizards and witches bustling alongside a grand, scarlet steam engine.
"Wicked!" He grinned at the train.
"Someone else puts our stuff on the train, don't worry." Draco looked over his shoulder as he walked towards a train door to see Harry pushing his trolley once again. "Shall we find a compartment?"
Harry nodded eagerly and the two boys raced to the train and continued their race to find the first empty train compartment. They slid the door open and plunked down, chests heaving, on the benches opposite each other. "How long will the ride take?" Harry asked, watching the many families kiss goodbye to their departing children.
"A few hours, I think. In the middle a woman pushes around a snack trolley. I'm gonna get a bunch of chocolate frogs." Draco patted his pocket and produced a faint jingling sound.
"Don't you want to say goodbye to your parents?" Harry turned from the window to face Draco and saw him tense slightly. "Sorry." He apologized quickly, not wanted to offend him.
"They have more important things to do, I suppose." Draco swung his legs wildly and drummed his fingers against the bench. "Listen, I'm sorry if I came off as rude in Madam Maulkin's. Jitters, I suppose." He grinned at Harry. "Forget it happened?"
"Sure." Harry returned the grin and the boys shook hands firmly.
After another moment, their compartment door slid open and a boy with brilliant red hair stuck his head in. "Mind if I join you? Everywhere else is full."
