Chapter 1
Oh my gosh! I found my mate! I wanted to scream out in joy but thought better of it because I didn't want to attract more attention than I already have. As I was walking around, I noticed this school was pretty much all werewolves. So far I haven't caught any human scents. Every being, whether it be human or other mythical creatures have a specific scent that is their own, no two scents are alike. My mates scent smells woodsy and I loved it. I wonder if he knows we are mates. He didn't seem too interested in me but I pretty much made a fool of myself when I stuttered and practically ran into the office. But the one thing I couldn't get out of my head was his eyes, they were so gorgeous and sparkled a little. I'd get lost in his eyes if I stared at them for long. I sound like such a girl! Back in my old town, I didn't care about dating. Yeah, I got asked out a lot but I was more into having friends than a relationship. Plus, most of the guys at school would say I am one of the guys. I love sports and playing with the guys is a lot of fun. My sister wasn't as into sports as I was but we both played volleyball, soccer, and ran track for our school. We had almost a full school of werewolves and pretty much won every event in track. We went easy when we competed against human schools but when we went against other werewolf schools, it was on, we went all out and competed so hard.
Thinking back to my old school, my old friends, and my family, my smile turned into a frown. How could they just keep me alive like that and kill everyone else? Starting now, I'm going to do whatever I needed to not think about my situation. I'm going to just focus on school and taking care of myself. That's what my family would have wanted. The bell rang and I saw everyone walking to their classes so I decided to go to mine after taking a deep breath. My class was on the far side of the school so I was late. When I opened the door, all eyes were on me and I walked to the teacher, handing him my schedule. I heard him growl when I looked him straight in the eyes. He didn't seem to like me because of that but with my Alpha blood, I wasn't going to back down. I hated when people challenged me and I was never one to back down from a challenge. It seemed like we stared at each other for five minutes until someone cleared their throat and he broke eye contact. I won! Take that, dude!
"Everyone, this is Blayz Marquez," Mr. Moor said and everyone just stared at me. "Take a seat in the back." I grabbed my schedule and walked to the back of the room, sitting next to the window. The school had a huge forest right behind it and it was beautiful, it would come in handy when I wanted to run or needed to get away from everyone. I run a lot more now because it gives me something to do. I decided that after school I would go check it out and find my spot to run. I liked to run the same route so I actually know where I'm going. Luckily, that class ended quickly like the rest of the morning classes.
It was lunch and I wasn't really hungry so I decided to go outside and enjoy the sun. I love nature, my family and I used to go on camping trips, boy were those fun. We had one big tent and we would catch our own food. Camping was so much fun. I found a tree and sat down, looking up at the sky. There were a few clouds but other than that, it was a nice day. The air smelled good and I just took a deep breath, enjoying it. I leaned my head back against the tree and closed my eyes. After a couple of minutes I felt someone sit next to me and looked to see a guy looking back at me.
"Hello," I said but he just kept staring at me. "I'm sorry. Am I in your spot?"
"No, but you are in my territory," he said with a deep voice.
"You the Alpha?"
"Yes. Why are you here?" his face turned from a blank expression to one filled with hate.
"I had to move. I won't be in your way so you don't have to worry about that."
"You don't smell like a rogue. Where is your pack?"
"Dead," I told him coldly. He kept his hate-filled expression but his eyes turned softer.
"Sorry to hear that. Just know that we won't hesitate to kill you."
"Don't worry. I won't be anywhere near you besides here."
"Just keep our warning in mind. Goodbye." He left without another word and I just stared after him. Taking another deep breath to calm myself, I smelled my mate and saw him talking to the Alpha. He seemed to be yelling at him and they kept looking from me back to each other. What was going on? Before I could even think about it, the bell for my last class rang and I headed there.
To get to my class I had to walk past my mate and the Alpha and I heard my name being said. It's none of my business, I told myself and walked to my class with people staring at me. My teacher actually smiled at me, which seriously shocked me. All of my teachers have glared at me and called me names under their breaths but this teacher actually smiled and was a werewolf. It honestly surprised me. I just smiled and sat in the back of the room and took out my notebook. The lesson was easy, talking about the economy and other things that humans think are important. I was really bored just sitting there, taking notes so when the bell rang I was so relieved and practically ran out, causing more people to stare. I walked outside and headed for the forest. I could feel someone following me but I just continued walking. If they wanted to talk to me, they would. When I got to the edge of the forest, I stopped. There was a beautiful cabin there that seemed empty. I just stood there, watching it with awe.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" a beautiful masculine voice said.
"Yes, it is. It looks abandoned though."
"It is," my mate said, walking up to stand next to me. He was a little taller than me, like two or three inches. Not many of the guys in my old town were taller than me but the ones that were never gave me a second look. They were all my best guy friends and thought of me as one of the guys.
"Why is that? If you know," I asked, quietly. He faced me and put his hands in his pocket.
"The family was killed by another pack that attacked one night."
"How terrible," I told him and looked back at the cabin. I took a deep breath and looked down, thinking about the fight. The images were flashing through my mind and I closed my eyes, gripping the straps on my backpack harder.
"Are you okay?" my mate asked and put a hand on my shoulder. The images went away instantly and I looked up to see him looking at me with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I should go home though."
"Wait, what's your name?"
"Blayz Marquez."
"Your name is beautiful. I'm Hayden Jacobs." I just smiled at him, not sure what to say. He just smiled back and stood closer to me and brushed his thumb across my cheek. I closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling and felt myself lean into him a little.
"Do you know how long I have been waiting for you?" Hayden asked and I looked at him. "A long time. I'm so glad I found you. Or you found me. I don't know which one but I'm glad you are here. Why exactly are you here?" I stepped away from him and looked away, feeling like I was about to have a panic attack.
"I'm sorry, I should go," I told him.
"I'll walk you back," Hayden said and we walked to my truck in a comfortable silence. My parents would be happy that I found my mate. So why do I still feel lonely?
