Cassie Pov
I check the time on my phone and see that it's 7:38 in the evening. I sigh to myself as I stand up from my chair in the hotel lobby to meet with Matthew. Apparently he has this whole idea in his head on how to make everything better, and it better be one hell of a good one.
I walk to the elevator slowly, wasting as much time as possible. I wait a few seconds before I push the button to go up, and to my disappointment, the doors open quickly. I step in and the doors close tightly, enclosing me in the moving box.
In seconds, the doors open wide for me to walk out. Before they can close on me again I take a step out of the elevator and just stand outside of it for a minute or two, pretending to text as people walk by. I begin to realize that this is stupid and I probably look crazy just standing here, so I give in and walk to my hotel room.
I feel like I should knock, which is absurd, considering this is my room just as much as it is Matt's, but instead I take a deep breath in walk in. Matt is laying on the bed, staring up at the ceiling with his phone on the nightstand. When he hears me come in, he immediately props up and smiles.
I slide off my shoes and stand at the entrance quietly. We have a bit of a staring contest as we take turns waiting for each other to speak. He eventually breaks the silence.
"Hey, Cassie," he says in a nervous tone.
"You requested to speak with me." I say blandly, like an underpaid servant would in the 1800's.
Matt chuckles. "Yes, I know." in this situation, he would be the king.
I raise an eyebrow. "And? What is there to say?" it comes out snappier than intended, but I'm okay with that because it shows that I'm angry with him.
Matt bows his head and sighs. "I think you know what I'm going to say."
I purse my lips tightly. "Yes, I suppose I do." I reply. "So get on with it and I can leave after."
I can tell Matt winced at my stubbornness, but he deserves it. "I'm sorry."
I wait a minute for him to continue speaking. When he doesn't, I speak up. "So am I."
Matt rolls his eyes with frustration. "Can you not just accept the fact that I'm sorry?" he begins to raise his voice. "How many times do I have to-"
"No, Matt, I can't!" I shout over him. "I can't just accept your lame apology and pretend that it's okay when we both know it's not!"
He looks at me with wild eyes, shocked I raised my voice like that. "Cassie,"
"Save it." I say, venom practically leaking from my tone.
"You don't understand." is all Matthew says.
"No, you don't understand." I retort. "You weren't cheated on by some guy that I talked to online, were you?"
Matthew shakes his head. "I wasn't."
"Exactly. So who do you think has the right to say that in this situation, huh?"
"You do." he admits.
I bite my lip and the tears come to my eyes. "Damn it." I mutter as I wipe a tear away.
"Cassie, I'm so sorry." Matt repeats.
"Okay." I sniffle. "That's great, and I believe you, but that won't fix everything."
