We were sitting in History class, waiting for the bell to ring, which signaled we were finally off for winter break. I looked over at Jace who was tapping his pencil looking at the clock.

"He never stops staring at that damn clock..." Heather whispered from the seat behind me. I giggled and continued to write down my notes, "he must be failing this class...he hardly takes notes!" She said angrily into her notebook, she was just mad, because she was never a good test taker.

"Okay kids, I have your tests that can go back home. Doug 83, Matt 72, Heather 84!" My teacher called as she came to Heather and handed her the test. She grabbed it and held it up, saying a prayer. I chuckled, and the teacher handed me my test. 89! "How did you get higher than me?!" She screeched, I turned to face her, and before I could she got the answer she needed.

"And congratulations to our highest test grade, which goes to Mr. Jace for an 97!" She said proudly handing the test to the boy who was still staring at the clock. I heard a bang behind me, and looked to see Heather's head on the table. I giggled and grabbed my books, the bell was about to ring.

"Lady and Gentleman, enjoy your break and when we come back we will investigate 20 Century crimes, and I will teach you all how to investigate and do research! Enjoy your week off!" She said as the bell was ringing. I looked for Jace who had already taken off completely. I shook my head and turned to Heather who was cursing under her breath.

"I think we should talk to Ms. Gilly about those guys at the mall, maybe she can help us investigate!" Heather whispered as we picked up our books and headed out the door. That would be a horrible idea, because then we would have to get out parents involved, and mine are already checked out.

"No we can solve mysteries on our own we are perfectly fine FBI agents!" I said bumping into her completely. I turned to put all my books in my locker when I spotted two boys leaning near my locker.

Stephan and Jace.

Jace was mouthing something looking straight ahead at me, and Stephan was laughing looking my way as well. I went to walk to them but Heather stopped me, "Girl no, just put your books in my  locker!" I shook my head and explained how my skateboard was in there. She sighed, seeming very annoyed and walked towards them herself.

"You two lovers over here better pronounce your love already for each other, it's sickening." She said plugging in my combination. Chuckling I just waited.

"Sweetie unless you want a piece of this.." Stephan said sliding his way down the lockers to Heather. She swung open my locker hitting him full force in the arm. He winced back, with Jace chuckling on the other side.

"Oh sorry sweetie did I do that?" Heather said closing the locker, and staring at Stephan who was smirking towards her. He pivoted on his foot and headed my way. I froze against the wall as he looked right at me still walking away. When he was gone I let out a breath of air I didn't know I was holding in.

I was preoccupied that I didn't realize my skateboard had hit me in the foot, I reached down the grab it, when I met the face of an angel, a stupid brown eyes angel. He held up a piece of paper, and before I could grab it he held it higher, causing me to frown.

"C'mon you didn't even try!" He said leaning down to peak my lips, but I turned my face and he kissed my cheek, leaving sparks. I turned back to see him frowning now. I shook my head and took that as my advantage to grab the paper. Walking away I opened it.

424 Rickington road

"An address?" I said turning asking him. He was leaning on the wall nodding. I heard a gasp behind me, "DID YOU BUY HER A HOUSE?!" Heather jumped up and down. Idiot.

"No air head, I didn't buy her a house." Jace chuckled as he looked at me, "It's a surprise that I'll show you Friday!" He said walking up to me and kissing me on the forehead, before he walked down the hall.

"But Friday is Christmas!" I shouted grabbing my board. He turned around skipping backwards.

"then wear something nice!"

Well Friday morning came and went, I had spent most of my time at Heather's house, but I spent one night at my own, just to get a couple of things. It's weird not sleeping in my own bed, but Heather's house feels like home now, my other house will never be the same.

We opened presents that her parents got me, and I asked her if she could stop at my house, because I forgot my charger there from a couple days ago. We pulled up to my house to find my parents cars in the drive way. I took a deep breathe before I looked at Heather. She nodded and I got out of the car.

The walk up to the house wasn't that long but it felt like years. I reached the handle before I heard rumbling in my house. I opened the door slowly before I saw my mother at the dinning room table, wrapping something.

"Olivia..." she said turning towards me, and for the first time in a long time I heard her voice fresh. No drugs, no beer, just normal.

"Mom?" I said but it came out as a question. She smiled sadly and nodded her head.

"It's me, sweetie I haven't seen you in so long, I thought something happened to you." She said walking towards me but I stopped her. She might not be drunk but I cannot predict what she will do. She looked shocked, but just looked to the floor. "I have a present for you!" She said shuffling back to the table and grabbing a small box with a sloppy yet neat wrapping.

I sat on the couch and unwrapped the box. I took the cover off and it reveled a ring. It was tiny so I knew it wasn't my size but it was gold and bright blue. A sapphire, but like my birth stone. I held it up and looked at my mom.

"That was the first gift you ever received as a baby. I found it the other night looking through things and I thought you would like it." She smiles, and rubbed her arms up and down. She was shaking a bit, and had horrible bags under her eyes. Something was wrong.

"Mom, what is it?" I said looking at her, not know what I was going to expect. She looked down and started to cry. I just stayed where I was. There was a buzzing from my phone and it was a test from heather. I ignored it looking at my mom.

"I think something happened to your father. But I don't know." She said moving her hands through her hair. "We drink a lot now, and I don't remember what happened but he hasn't come home in 2 days."

"How do you know?" I looked at her confused, she drinks everyday so she wouldn't have remembered. She looked at me and it registered. I looked around the room and saw no empty beer cans. Nothing was surrounding up but out home and sunshine.

"I haven't picked up a drink in 3 days." She said smiling with tears in her eyes. "I even signed myself up for a program down by grandma, so I will be leaving tonight." She said sadly but with a glimpse of hope. I didn't know what to say, but I felt my phone vibrate again, reminding me heather was still outside.

"I have to go, Heather is waiting for me and I ha..." I said as I reacher for the door I looked back quickly, and saw the woman that used to be my mom. But I wasn't ready to believe that. I gave her a quick smile before I closed to door and ran down the driveway to Heather's car.

"WHAT IN THE HELL TOOK SO LONG YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE YOUR CHARGER!" She screamed completely out of breath, holding the phone up to her ears, "one day your stupid girlfriend is going to get killed and it will be all her fault!" She screamed into the phone, making me burst out a quick laugh but I covered my mouth.

"I talked to my mom."
