WINTER WAS TOUGH, but we were tougher.

"Charlie. I don't want to walk!" Carl whined.

"So? Go complain to your parents!" I snapped. I know it was rude, but I'm in no mood to put up with him.

It got cold, really fucking cold.

"You really should have this jacket Charlie," Derek motioned to the jacket from Maggie.

"No, you passed out not too long ago, you could die from hypothermia," I insisted.

"Enough with this hypothermia bullshit!" He snapped.

"Well, you need it more than me," I pushed on.

"Fine. But next place we search, you get a damn coat!" He snapped.

"Fine," I agreed.

We never found a safe place. Bits and pieces of herds found us and pushed us onward.

"Charlie! Walkers! Let's go!" Beth whisper screamed.

"Carl, Beth, stay in front me," I pushed Beth ahead and readied my knife.

"I think we're good." Rick declared once the herd passed.

"What are we going to do? Lori's belly is growing every day. We need a place to have it," Daddy reminded.

Lori is over due now. If we don't find a place soon, she might have to give birth out on the road.

"Charlie! Rick said he found a place!" Beth called to me. I ran over to where they were.

"A prison. It's over run, but we can take it," Rick stated. I could feel that he was hopefull simply through his tone. I turned my head and locked eyes with Derek.

Over the winter I believed we'd gotten closer. Usually we ended up walking or sitting next to eachother, sometimes not even saying anything. I felt somethong for him I couldn't match a word to.

Now, as he eyed me, I raised a brow. Silently asking his thoughts on what Rick had said. He merely shrugged. With that, we all followed Rick to what could potentially be our new safehaven.

Rick was right. It was over run, but we might have been able to do it. Glenn cut a whole in the fence and we all slipped through. We walked on while Glenn and Daryl tied it shut with wire.

"Carol, Daryl, take that tower, Carl and Charlie, take that one," Rick motioned to the towers and told Carol something about becoming a good shot. I wasn't paying attention to be honest. "I'll run down the field and close that gate. Everyone else draw them over to the fence and kill them," Rick instructed.

"No, I'll run across, you go to the guard tower. I'm faster," I suggested.

"No," Rick snapped. "It's dangerous."

"Charlie, you coming?" Carl shouted as he walked to the tower, Carol and Daryl already in theirs.

"Yeah," I lied. Lori opened the gate and just before Rick ran through, I pushed him back and darted towards the gate. I heard everyone calling my name, but ignored it. Gun shots were fired and walkers fell to the ground around me.

I almost got shot in the leg and looked up to Carol who gave me an apologetic smile and I think apolagized. I finally made it to the gate and quickly closed it. I ran to the closest tower and slammed the door shut behind me.

I made my way to the top and pulled out my hand gun. I shot down a few walkers and soon they were all down. I went down and out of the tower as everyone entered the yard.

"What were you thinking?" Rick shouted.

"I wasn't," I shrugged.

"You're lucky you're fast, kid!" Maggie patted my back as she passed me.

"We haven't had this much space since the farm!" Carol exclaimed. I nodded in agreement and looked around.

This could work.

"What you did was stupid," Beth scowled.

"Not really," I rolled my eyes.

"It was pretty dumb," Derek agreed with her.

"Whatever, better me than Rick," I shrugged.

"Don't you dare say that," Rick pointed at me with a serious look.

"Why are we arguing over something that wasn't that big of a deal? Yes. It was stupid and dumb and dangerous. No. I wasn't thinking. But I'm fine," I squealed frustrated.

"At least she admits it," Lori muttered. I smiled weakly at her as she placed a hand on my shoulder, giving it a squeaze.

Later that night we all sat around the fire eating what little food we had. Daddy started begging me and Beth to sing. We tried to decline but I swear it was nearly impossible to say no to that man.

"Of all the money that e'er I had, I spent it in good company," Beth sang looking at the fire from beside me.

"And all the harm I've ever done, alas it was to none but me," I joined her.

"And all I've done for want of wit, to mem'ry now I can't recall. So fill to me the parting glass, good night and joy be to you all," We sang together. Beth rested her head on my shoulder as we continued.

"So fill to me the parting glass, and drink a health whate'er befalls, and gently rise and softly call. Good night and joy be to you all!" We finished. I smiled at the flames as Beth laid down. Daddy praised us, while I just shook my head with a smile.

"Not too bad, blondie," Derek chuckled. I smiled over at him.
