We got home and we started our homework at the kitchen table as Mary came in from her afternoon jog. She saw both me and Adoward sitting next to each other and glared at us and went to go take a shower. Adoward and I looked at each other and shrugged. "Normal" I thought. We continued our homework, helping each other occasionally until dinner was ready to be started. Mary came and kicked us out of the kitchen in order to start dinner. So the two of us ran up to Adoward's room and we talked about random crap until dinner was ready.

As we were coming downstairs for dinner Adoward and I was finishing up our conversation that we had started before Alivyre came up saying that dinner was ready.

"Why are you friends with them Makaylae? They are always mean to you" said Adoward.

"That's only Katherina, Adoward" I reply back.

"I thought the others were too"

"Nope. Just her"

When we turned into the kitchen everyone was staring at us a looks we laughed at my last comment.

"About time you two got in here" Mary replied getting up to get the food.

The two of us sat down next to each other and were about to start a conversation when Mary came back in with the food. She then separated us and put each of us at one end of the table. As we ate dinner Adoward and I kept looking at each other communicating through our eyes. Mary noticed and put the mashed potatoes in front of our faces so that way we couldn't see each other.

"Are you serious Mary? The two are trying to have a conversation" complains Troy.

"Well if they have something to say, then they can say it to all of us" replies Mary.

"No they don't Mary. They're teenagers they keep things from a lot of people. It's what teenagers do. They only trust certain people with certain things".

"Well if they can't talk about it in front of us then they can wait until they are done with dinner to talk".

"You won't leave them in the same room as each other alone so they never have a chance to talk to each other privately".

"Will you two please stop fighting", a small voice said from across the room.

While Mary and Troy had been arguing neither one had noticed that I had gone across the room as far away from them as possible. Adoward came over to me went to comfort me.

"Stay away from her Adoward" warned Mary.

"She's scared mom. She gets scared when people start arguing with each other" Adoward argued.

"Why it's not like we are going to hurt her"

Troy finally understood why I was so scared, "Did your parents have a fight before your mom hurt you?"

I could only nod as I was forced back into the past remembering the day that my parents argued, my father left because he was called in, my mother was still mad and sadly took it out on me.

"Makaylae. Makaylae? Makaylae!"

I snapped out of my memory of that day and saw Adoward looking at me with his face full of worry.

"Makaylae are you ok?" Troy asked me

I nodded again, "I'm going to be in my room if you guys need me".

Adoward tried to follow me but I told him that I needed some time to think.
