Chapter Two - He Wasn't Kidding.
"I'm off to work." Quentin, my brother, kisses me on my cheek as I eat my breakfast. Here's a thing about us, I wake up and he's off to work - he gets home but I'm already fast asleep. Sure, we don't see each other often but I know he always got my back.
Whenever he's free, I'd drop anything I'm doing and I'll spend some time with him.
"Stay safe." I stand up from my seat and face him, fixing his tie. "Go, get 'em tiger."
"Rawr." He playfully roars. "What do you want for dinner? I'll be home early."
"Meat. Beef. Steak!" I yell, pumping my fists in the air. He laughs and ruffles my hair.
"Steak it is." He smiles. "Do you want to invite some friends?"
I roll my eyes at him. He always ask this. "Nah." I say, turning my back to him so that I won't get to see the worried look on his face.
"I'm sorry, baby doll." He quietly says. "I guess my way of checking up on you kind of sucks."
Well, good thing you know.
"Should I be worried that you've found friends on Last Drop but not on Knight?"
"Well, some people from the bar are actually pretty decent and strikes as a good influence to me." I shoot. "And newsflash, majority of students in Knight care about nothing but their popularity."
"Now, you're just being judgmental." He sighs.
"I'm not." I grit my teeth. "You know I can be a lot of things but being a liar isn't one of them."
"Look, I'm sorry. I'm just worried, okay?" He pulls me gently and hugs me tightly. "It's just I want to be a responsible guardian for you while our parents are gone."
"But you're fine the way you are, Q. It's enough that you do your best to provide for the both of us. Don't worry too much about me, okay? I'm old enough to be looked after. Doesn't my graduating in a few months proves you that? Besides, I need to practice being independent since I'll be attending college alone, miles away from you."
"Don't remind me every darn time." He mutters softly. "Honestly, can't you attend school that's near here?"
"Q. Don't even start, please? You know I'm all set already." I smile softly, tugging on his coat.
"Yeah. Psychology at NYU." He chuckles. "I'm proud of you, baby."
"You better be." I can't help but grin at the thought of moving to my two best friends' city, New York. They even promised me that they'll help me settle in the dorms and inside uni.
Yeah, they're a few years older than me but we have a lot in common. They are also attending NYU and it's their second year already. They are both taking up Psychology and maybe their love for their course kind of influenced me to study the same. It's not like I have anything planned since honestly, I don't even know what I want. All I know is that I love singing and performing on stage so I'm really happy that I passed NYU's examinations and is qualified for the said course. Just thinking about uni makes my heart beats fast.
