Jasmine’s P.O.V.
The noise in the room decreased as people took their seats. I stood awkwardly near the back of the room where Landon had left me. I obviously wanted to know what was happening, but I did not want to take a seat. Taking a seat would make me seem apart of them, and I didn’t want them to think I agreed with their ploys or what they possibly wanted to do to Justin.
I stood aside with a firm look across my face, just when Marie came over to me.
“I really do hope you realize that you need to take a seat with us, I didn’t bring you here for you to make out with your next roommate”
Two things in her statement got to me.
The fact that she thought I voluntarily kissed Landon, and the fact that she said Landon was my next roommate.
Marie stared intently at me, with a grin spread across her face. She was expecting a response.
But instead of countering back a rude remark, I took the moment to examine her and try to make out the reason behind her cold intentions. She was really pretty. Dimples, perfect skin, nice features, and she had Justin looped around her fingers once. I didn’t get what could have turned her so cold. She came off so innocent and perfect, it was a shame that she had her features wrinkled in a scowl all the time.
“You should smile like that more often” I told her, speaking what was on my mind.
Her grin faded, and her eyebrows furrowed. She painted a look of confusion across her face.
Marie opened her mouth to say something, but then bit her lip when she realized she had nothing to say. For a good second, I saw something genuine in her. An innocent appeal, trying to make out something to say.
“Take a seat Jasmine” she replied, after a while of contemplating.
I shook my head ever so slightly, realizing that slight innocence was gone. She walked around the table to take her seat near the front.
Taking my mind off of Marie, I looked back around at the table to find an empty seat. I scowled as I spotted the only seat. It was beside Landon.
Unfortunately, I had to take the seat. I kept my eyes on my feet as I approached the chair and sat down. Covering my face with my hair, and facing away from Landon, I tried my best to avoid him.
A soft chuckle escaped his mouth as he realized my attempts to avoid him. Luckily, he didn’t try anything, rather he kept his mouth shut, and his attention towards the man sitting at the front.
“Quiet down ladies and gents, we need to begin,” declared a short women standing beside the man. His secretary or assistant I assumed.
At her demand, everyone gradually stopped talking and the room came to complete silence.
“Well shit, this man must be someone special” I muttered to myself, causing Landon to laugh.
I shot a glare at him, and he immediately stopped laughing.
I turned back to realize the man at the front staring back at me and Landon.
“Landon,” his husky voice began, “do you have something to say? Possibly a joke to share?”
Landon stiffened up, but then quickly spoke. “No Mario- I mean sir. Actually, Jasmine here-” he pointed at me “- was wondering who you were.”
As he singled me out, I began to completely resent him more than I already did 30 seconds earlier.
Mario shook his head and chuckled. Not a genuine laugh, however. It seemed to be as though he was mocking me.
“You will learn a lot about me over the next few weeks, don’t you worry Jasmine.” he told me, eyes glaring straight at me.
