"Rose!"
I pounded on the bathroom door.
"Why do girls have to take so damn long?"
I called.
"Give me five more minutes!"
"Rose, you're ten. What are you doing in there?"
"My curls are showing!"
I rolled my eyes.
"Mom loved your curls."
"Yeah? Well mom isn't here..."
A pause.
"And I don't like them."
"What ever. Call me when you get out."
I walked down the hall and stepped into my room. Book bag packed- I stepped in front of my dresser mirror and tried to fix my hair. Extreme fringe-gaps pissing me off.
"Ah come on.."
I mumbled as I licked my fingers, placing my hair right.
"Now stay."
I mumbled. I picked up my book bag and headphones from the floor. As I passed the bathroom I hit the door again.
"I'm good- Take as long as your ten-year old self needs."
"Thanks!"
I rolled my eyes and walked down the hall to the front door.
"I'm leaving!"
I called.
"Bye!"
Rose called from upstairs. I opened the door and headed out. The air was humid as normal. Already making me sweat, my shirt sticking to me. Early summer was the worst in Texas.
Kelsy and Jan were already next to the stop sign, waiting for the bus. I mentally sighed.
"Those shoes are so cute on you!"
"Thanks, Kelsy. I got them yesterday while out with Chris."
"That's amazing! Where?"
"Forever 21. And they where on- Ugh. Look who it is."
She stopped talking to look at me. Kelsy looked too.
"Ugh."
"Why does he have to be here too?"
Jan asked.
"Maybe because.. I have to ride the bus too..?"
I raised an eyebrow.
"What ever."
They both rolled there eyes and started a new topic. I swung my bag off my shoulder and placed it down, sitting on top. I plugged in my phone to my earbuds. Playing 'Lane Boy' by Twenty One Pilots loud enough to drown out Kelsy and Jan.
The bus rounded the corner about a minute or so later. Its ugly yellow paint chipping on the sides, an eye sore. I stood up and brushed off my bad, swinging it back on. I followed Jan and Kelsy into the big metal sweat-inducer. I took my seat near the front.
Normally, we are the last stop. The the bus goes straight down the road and out the neighborhoods back entrance. I lifted my head off the window, however, when we turned left at the end of the street.
I leaned over to see what was going on. Some of the other kids, freshman and sophomores mainly, looked up to see what was happening also. We pulled up to a house a few down from the turn. We stopped, and the door opened. A kid I didn't recognize got on. A guy, a few feet taller than me. He looked up with confidence as he got on. Our eyes met momentarily and he smiled. The hazel orbs seeming like familiar. I shook off the feeling and looked away, resting my head again. He sat in the seat behind mine.
