"Shit." I muttered to myself. If I was right and this was a dream, I could choose to wake up at any time, so I set my foot down on the next mesmerizing step. I never saw the same color twice, it was always a vibrant new shade, some that I never even knew existed.

I stopped on an indigo step and tied my long hair up. The straight brown strands kept falling over my eyes as I looked down to admire the steps. Eventually the spiraling stopped, and the steps began to go straight down for the final few. I could see the bottom, it was a dirt floor and a beautiful turquoise pond surrounded by sharp black stones jutting up from the ground, they looked almost like onyx and reflected the color of the pond.

I hopped off the final step, which was a variation of swirling colors, and my converse hit the dirt floor. Under me, the dirt turned into a white stone, as bright as new snow. I slowly made my way to the pond, my feet leaving a rainbow trail of footprints behind me. They vanished shortly after I took another step. As I reached the pond I looked down over the edge and saw multitudes of fish, crabs, and even sharks all varying in color. They all swam together without quarrelling.  The pond was so deep that I could not see the bottom, just an endless turquoise abyss. There was a heavy mist that spilled over the edges of the pond.

Suddenly a huge plum colored shark leaped from the water and landed at my feet thrashing. With a squeal, I backed away quickly.

The shark began to sprout legs and arms, his neck lengthened, and eventually his head turned to what looked like a human's. Finally, he began to stand as I prepared to make a run for the staircase. I turned to realize that the steps had disappeared, leaving nothing but a seemingly limitless empty cave. I took a deep breath and turned to face the thing.

He, or it, began walking towards me. He looked like a young man, maybe twenty and now had a healthy olive complexion playing nicely with a gray suit, and plum tie. His eyes were a breathtaking, a  vibrant plum which matched his tie. He smiled at me with a row of very sharp, very white teeth.

"Hello." He greeted me by putting out what used to be a fin. I suppose I was meant to shake his hand, but I just inched forward cautiously. "I'm sorry for my entrance, I wasn't told that we'd have any visitors today." He flattened out his suit with his other hand. As he walked, each foot left prints the same color as his eyes.

"I didn't know I was visiting anyone." I said shakily, still moving forward and eventually taking his still outstretched hand.

"I'm Mason." He smiled again as I finally took his hand, which was cold, but not wet nor slimy.

"Isabella." I introduced myself sharply.

"I'll show you to the palace, if you'd follow me." He turned on his heels and began walking back in the direction of the pond.

I had no choice but to follow. This is by far my weirdest dream yet.

He placed his palm on one of the black stones and it pulsed with the lovely plum color, and slowly a matching bridge emerged over the water.

He turned to make sure I was following. When he saw that I was still a good distance away, he motioned me forward with his hand.

"You'll have to hold on to me in order to stay up on this bridge. It's my color so you'll fall through if you let go." He explained.

I walked up and prepared to grab his hand, but he watched my feet and his mouth hung wide open.

"It doesn't look like you will need to hold on actually, but we do need to move quickly." He said, somewhat flustered.

"Okay...'' I said slowly. What the hell is going on?

He practically ran across the bridge. I started quickly but fell into a trance like state. The mist over the illuminated pond covered the bridge and went just above ankles, and it was so thick that I could hardly see my shoes. I peered over the edge and watched as the beautiful aquatic creatures swam around, and I wondered if everyone in there could take the shape of a person, like Mason.
