>>ASPEN'S POV<<

"Baby, what do you think about this one?"

"It's kinda ugly." Finn replied drowsily, his eyes shut.

"Mommy's never ugly, Finnie." Evangeline scolded Finn, and I couldn't help but let out a laugh. "You look beautiful, Mama."

"Stop calling me that, Rat." He shot back. "Mama, you look nice but I don't necessarily like that one on you. You should wear that pretty dress Mitch bought you."

"Are you guys gonna get married?" Evangeline asked me, her eyes wide. Mitch and I had a date tonight, and since I had no friends besides ones from the PTA, I had my two children helping me pick out something to wear.

"God, no. Mitch has commitment issues. That's what Daddy said." Finn was still recovering from his concussion, but he was able to do things now, like watch TV, or play video games. It was still hard for him, but he was trying.

"Hey, kid, how do you know what that means?" I replied, my eyebrows raising up. Finn was way too smart for his own good. That kid was basically a fourteen year old girl in a six year olds body. Although, at times I think that I followed my son's advice better than my own.

"I'm smart, Momma." He opened his eyes and beamed at me. Little angel, he was.

I was really excited for this date. Mitch and I hadn't really went out as a couple yet, and well, I was honestly kind of nervous. I knew at some point we would have to have sex, and frankly, the only person I had done it with was the mountain man. I just hoped that wasn't tonight.

It sort of hit me how friendly Mitch and I were even as a couple. He was my best friend, and sometimes I regret starting a relationship because ultimately, I sort of knew that we wouldn't be sitting together when we were ninety, talking about the twins and some other children.

My phone began to ring, and speak of the devil, it was Mitch. Evangeline was watching a show on there, and she answered the phone.

"Hello?" She began.

"Hey, it's Mitch. Can I speak to your Mom?"

"Okay." Evangeline handed me the phone, and shot me a toothless smile. "Mama, it's Mitch."

"I know sweetie." I put the phone to my ear and walked out of the room. "Hey, you."

"Hey, Aspen." He let out an exasperated sigh. "Listen, I'm going to have to cancel."

"What?" I croaked. That hit me really hard. "Why?"

"A friend of mine is going through some stuff and I can't leave them right now. I'm sorry, babe. We'll schedule it another time and I'll make it up to you, okay?"

"Okay." My heart hurt. Just a few hours ago he was texting me how excited he was about our date. "I'll talk to you soon."

"Okay. Hey, Aspen?"

"Yeah?"

"I...um...I hope you're okay."

"Thanks." I hung up the phone and walked back into my room. "You're right Finn, it was sort of ugly anyways."

"No it wasn't, Mama." He sat up on his knees, giving me a look, as did Evangeline when I handed her back my phone. "Is everything okay?"

"Mitch had to cancel." I sat on my bed, crossing my legs. "It's okay, though. What do you guys want to do tonight?"

"Uncle Jake was going to take us for supper and then hang out with us since he's back from seeing Gramma and Papa." Evangeline smiled widely. "You can come with us!"
