>>JORDAN'S POV<<
It's been three weeks, and everything seems to be fine. Isabell came back from Montreal, obviously happy to spend time with her friend, and Aspen said that Mitch came back happily. The one thing that bugged me was that they left at the same time, and came back at the same time. It was just a happening though, nothing to worry about.
I still couldn't get my mind off that damn kiss.
Aspen was treating me the same, despite what had happened, and I swear to god, my cheek still stung from that slap. She said it was an instinct, but it's not as if she kissed me I would slap her. Well, I would probably kiss her again.
Ever since then, I've been conflicted on Aspen.
I knew that I didn't love Aspen. I couldn't. Isabell was my wife. My pretty, kind of a bitch all the time wife. But lately, Isabell wasn't talking to me, and she was out of the house whenever the kids were around. Which, since Aspen was finally beginning to trust me, was a lot. And she was sleeping on the couch lately.
However, she wasn't talking to me about it either, so how could I fix it if she wasn't talking to me?
I dialled Aspen's number, waiting for the familiar voice. I wasn't expecting her to answer-today was Finn's soccer tournament.
I still couldn't get the kiss out of my mind. She tasted like peppermint, and I found myself thinking about it over and over.
"Hello?" Her voice rang through the phone, and I sat up straighter.
"Hi, Aspen. It's Jordan."
"I know. Caller ID." She sounded tired, exceptionally tired. And from what I had experienced, a tired Aspen was not one you wanted to associate with.
"Anyways, um... I was wondering if you wanted me to drive the kids to Finn's soccer game." I ran my hand through my hair, waiting for her response.
"How did you know about that?" She seemed alert now, questioning me with a skeptical note in her voice.
"Um... Finn told me about it." That was a little bit of a lie, he was talking to Evangeline about it in the car a few days ago. Every day, I was picking them up from school, Finn was playing my video games, and Evangeline explored my house.
It was still awkward between us, especially right now. You could feel the tension.
"I... yeah, sure. I have to head to work quickly, and that would be a great help." Taking a breath of relief, I placed a genuine smile on my lips.
"Do you want me to pick them up at your place, or are you dropping them off?"
"I'll drop them off on my way, and meet you at the soccer field."
"Okay. I lo--" I cut myself off, not wanting the say the words that almost came out of my mouth.
"Bye, Jordan." She let out an exasperated sigh before clicking the end button, and I smiled a little to myself, looking down at my outfit, which consisted of dress pants and a dress shirt. Isabell is back, and I have to dress nice, yet she could dress like a trash bag once a month.
I wasn't looking for a fight at this point. Today was going to be a good day.
I quickly changed into my own clothing, which was a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Although Santa Barbara was down south, it could get quite nippy, and this was the time of the year. Finn was playing indoor soccer, though, so it wouldn't be much of a problem.
"Where are you going?" Isabell stopped me in my tracks as soon as I stepped out of the room, and I froze. I knew that she didn't like the kids. I knew she despised them. I had a feeling it was because of Aspen, but it wasn't as if I was going to ask.
