>>ASPEN'S POV<<
"I've got it, Finnie." I smiled at Finn, grabbing the cheese and shaking it over his pasta, placing it in front of me.
"I meant Mitch." Finn pointed to Mitch beside him, who ruffled his hair lightly. Jordan seemed wounded by the gesture, and Isabell seemed bothered. Evangeline tapped me on the shoulder, and leaned up to whisper into my ear.
"Jordy seems upset." She whispered, and I looked across to see Jordan, biting down on his lip. Oh yeah. I was going to tell the twins about Jordan this morning before they were going to be picked up, but I forgot.
"So, Aspen." Isabell turned to me, and I raised my eyebrows. "What do you do for a living?"
"I'm a nurse." I replied smoothly, raising my eyebrows. "I like to help the community. Children's Ward. What about you?" And professional shopper doesn't count, I told myself. Isabell opened her mouth to speak, and I leaned back in my chair.
"How did you balance these brats-I mean children, while you were in school?" Isabell spoke up, and Jordan placed his hand over hers, rubbing circles on it.
"Mitch helped me. I took night school, and he would watch the kids while I did." Isabell opened her mouth, before beginning to stab her pasta. Jordan let go of her hand, and looked at Mitch, and then me, in which I raised my eyebrows at him, and he broke his stare.
"Mommy, why did Jordan grab it?" Finn asked quietly, and I felt myself turning pale. "He's not our Daddy." I saw Jordan's face fall at that, and Isabell turn her lips up into a small smile. She still didn't know that Jordan was the father. At least that was what Jordan had said, that he had just explained that we were exceptionally good friends in years past, and that I had children with somebody else.
"Actually Finn, he is." I bit my lip. "A long time ago, Mommy made a mistake. A good mistake, or else I wouldn't have you and Evangeline. But Jordan is your Daddy, not Mitch. Mitch is Mommy's friend."
There was silence at the table as I finished speaking, and Isabell glared daggers at me. Whoops, I fucked her husband. Jordan looked at Finn, who stared earnestly at Jordan.
"I want Mitch to be my Daddy." He said finally, his lip quivering.
"Jordy was obviously our Daddy. Finn looks like him." Evangeline stated after a few seconds.
"Finn, I know." I murmured softly to him. "I do too."
"Excuse me, I need some air." Isabell stood up from the table, Jordan's head in his hands. After a few moments, Mitch leaned over and whispered in my ear.
"I'm going to go check on her. I don't think she wants to see you or Jordan right now." He murmured, and I nodded, kissing his cheek.
"Thank you." I whispered.
"I'll come by tonight. Take my car home, I'll grab a taxi." He pecked my lips, before standing up and leaving the table. "Sorry for that." He told Jordan, who looked up and gave a nod.
"I'm going to head home. The twins have school tomorrow." I stood up, running my hands through my hair. "Finnie, Evangeline, lets go home."
"Mommy, I want to stay with Daddy." Evangeline pouted, but Finn bolted out of his chair.
"Where's Mitch?" Finn frowned, and I grabbed his little hand with my own, before letting go and stroking his hair.
"He's being nice. Maybe if you two are good, Mommy will order you a pizza, since neither of you touched your dinners and let you stay up later." I murmured quietly.
"Don't go. Please." Jordan bit his lip, and I looked down at my hands. "I'm sorry for Isabell. I-I was going to tell her."
"I'm such an idiot. I shouldn't have said that out loud." I played with my fingers, refusing to look Jordan in the eye. "Evangeline, let's go." She got out of her seat reluctantly, before running at Jordan to give him a hug.
