Alphabet Soup

Does anybody remember?

When we were just kids,

Learning how to walk,

And learning how to talk

Don't you remember?

When we were best of friends,

Sitting in the sun,

Playing some childhood game,

Pretending dinosaurs were ripping off our heads

And we lived next door,

Like a classic fairytale,

I sound like Taylor Swift,

But lemme tell you,

This is a tragedy

Once upon a time,

We played princessses,

And danced foolishly in the rain,

You and I, just singing,

And playing with my Barbies,

Don't you recall?

We always loved alphabet soup

We used to play dress up,

And I forced you into,

My Mama's heels,

We used to pretend we were rockstars,

Performing every night on a,

Different stage

But then we changed to Mario,

Racin' down the track,

And then you're shooting zombies,

And I hang back

Sometimes I think,

We grew up too fast,

Something tells me,

If we would have slowed down our lives,

And opened our eyes,

We would see just how lucky we are,

You would see,

Who you used to be,

I would see the person I once knew,

And I would be so proud of you,

Try and give you a hug,

But then I remember,

It's only a memory

Once upon a time,

You used to care about me,

Once upon a time,

You cared about something more,

It wasn't just friends and sports,

It wasn't a threat to our lives,

It was all just a game,

I don't see why it isn't

Like some sort of virtual reality,

But this is for real,

You can't be somebody else,

Without completely losing yourself,

So much for innocence

We used to eat apples,

Like they were suagr filled candy,

But now we cringe,

As if they were posion,

But we all know that ice cream is

Once upon a time,

Gage was my best friend,

Then life happened,

And everthing changed,

He ain't coming back,

But I can't seem to move on

Is there anyone else?

Who feels this way?

As if you're powerless against Father Time,

Who whisks away your friends,

Changing them into strangers,

Enemies, addicts, and killers,

Out to cause some sort of pain,

What ever happened to the good old days?

Before the cliques,

Before the bullies,

Before the nothingness of today.
