Pain shot up my back and I woke with a startled gasp. There was a moment of bewilderment and confusion before it came back to me. The gang, Clare, and them finding my I.D, but that didn't make sense. I should be in the alley, not in- Where am I? Everything was dark, hot, and cramped. My legs were rapped in a ball up to my chest. There was a loud rumbling sound almost like a car eng-
"Oh my god," I said aloud in shock. My body tensed and tears brimmed on the edges of my eyes. I\'m in the trunk of a car. "What- no this can't be happening. I’m not Clare, they know that.” I laid my head back and then shot upward, bashing my already throbbing head on the top of the trunk.
“Who the hell are you? Where am I? What the hell is going on?” I heard a scratchy voice beside me. In the near total darkness I could see the faint silhouette of a girl. She was slim, had long hair, and a small head, kind of like me. That was all I could see in the dark space.
“I could ask you the same thing.” I retorted, with a bit of an edge to my voice.
“I’m Sarah, and you are?” she asked, as nicely as I would have expected her to react to my tone.
“Okay, well under different circumstances I would say it was nice to meet you Sarah, but-“ I choked back a sob and let every tear full of fear, anger and longing to be back with my family run down my pale face. “I’m sorry it’s just that I don’t belong here and I-“
“It’s all right, I know what you mean, I don’t belong here either. All I remember is this big white van showing up out of nowhere when I was walking to soccer, then a bunch of crazy gang members showed up and started to call me Clare. Next thing I know I’m in the trunk of a car with some girl I don’t even know,” she whispered, an air of panic in her trembling voice.
“Oh right, sorry about that. I’m Felicity, but call me Flick, you know when they-“ I motioned toward the front of the car, “-aren’t around.”
“Right, of course.”
We laid there for twenty minutes, silent tears pouring down my face, like a river through the mountains. Just as I was about to ask Sarah if she had any idea where they were taking us, the car jolted to a stop, tossing us forward in the cramped trunk.
I could hear hushed voices speaking hurriedly; “We can’t take them here, they’ll figure it out,” the young girl said.
The oldest guy replied, “We don’t have anywhere else to take them Ree, this is the only option.”
“Fine,” Ree sounded frustrated, “but we can’t let them see where they’re going. Grab the bags.”
I could hear something jumbling around in the back seat, and then a car door closed. A key jiggled in the lock, and then the trunk lid swung open. I closed my eyes, the harsh, hot sunlight forcing its way through the cracks between all five of the kidnappers.
“Get out here, “the youngest man-more like kid, he couldn’t have been older then seventeen- said. The muscley guy beside him grabbed me roughly by the arm and yanked me out of the trunk, bashing my elbow against the side of it on the way. Somebody jammed a pillowcase over my head and I completely lost my sense of balance. Slipping and nearly crashing to the ground, I felt a much gentler hand catch me and pull me back to an upright position.
“You Okay,” he asked in a hushed voice, so no one else could hear him.
“Yah, besides being kidnapped,” I emphasized the latter, hoping to get some sympathy from whoever he was.
I felt Sarah brush against me, as we were dragged backwards so quickly that it was nearly impossible to keep my footing. I was carried up a set of four, maybe five steps and towed across the threshold to a house or building of some kind. The scent was repugnant. Mildew, dust, and rotting vegetables came to mind. Terror sent shivers down my spine, making it that much harder to stumble through the darkness. I was shoved through a doorway, bashing into the doorframe with my left shoulder. Sarah whimpered as she was thrown to the ground at my feet. The pillowcase was ripped off my head, a snap or zipper caught my cheek and droplets of blood began to run down my face. I caught a glimpse of my captors as a metal door banged shut behind me. Sarah's head was bleeding from where it had come in contact with the cement floor. That's pretty much all this was, a cement box with a metal door.
I let a single blood stained tear fall to the ground as I spoke. "What the hell are we going to do now?"
