"God, I'm freezing. How long have we been here anyways?" Sarah asked from the corner. Those were the first words she'd spoken since we go in here. She was just so scared.
I on the other hand, had kept my head about me. Ever since I was a little kid my parents had been having discussions with me about what to do in different 'situations'.
"About three hours, according to the position of the sun," I responded, pointing towards the pitiful excuse for a window. It took me longer to wipe the layers of grime and dust off of it then it would take to drive across the United States.
I had already gone through the room, looking for supplies. Other then the dirt and dust I had managed to come across a pack of fifty sheets of paper, a box of soggy matches with only two matches left, a light bulb that I'd managed to get out of it's socket in the roof, pocket lint, three cigarette buds and a pen from my back pocket.
"Why don't you just call for help?" Sarah asked, frustration and anger that obviouly wasn't meant to be directed at me evident in her tired voice.
"For the sixth and final time, those sleazeballs took my phone. Now instead of complaining constantly why don't you get up and help me. Seriously I understand that your scared and going through a traumatic event or whatever but so am I, and you don't see me pouting in the corner." I lashed out, not caring about what she would think of my personality.
"Well sorry for being afraid, I'll try to keep my sobbing to a minimum so you can 'concentrate," she sneered, a rather nasty smirk flashing across her face.
"Stop, this is what they want. The more we fight, the less we focus on getting out of here." I said, as an apologetic look crossed over Sarah's features.
"You're right, lets see what we have," she responded, getting up to look at the supplies I had gathered.
"Its not much but its something," I said quietly.
"Are you kidding, you've done more in the last few hours then I would have done in a week. How do you do it? You're so calm, you don't even look scared."
I looked at her, at those sad eyes and knew immediately that I couldn't lie to her. "Honestly, I'm so terrified. In the last hour I've gone over every possible scenario that could possibly come of where we are now. I've asked every question you could think of and all it's done is made me more scared. I keep telling myself it's gonna be okay, people are looking for me but what if they aren't? I don't want to sit in here and wait until they let us go or kill-" my voice caught, and my shoulder slumped, sobs echoing gently off the tomb-like room
Sarah slipped her arms around my lifeless figure. "It'll be okay, it has to be." Her eyes wandered to the window, our only glimmer of hope. "It's just mom, and I at home and I don't know what she'd do if I didn't come back. What about you, who do you live with?"
"Just my mom and I. Wow, I guess we don't just have looks in common, huh." I giggled, trying desperately to break the tension.
"Ya, no wonder they couldn't tell the difference between us. Not to mention there's still some evil doppelganger out there. She's the reason we're in here, because she killed that kid." She dropped her gaze to the floor. "So, what do we do now?"
"Well, I think it's fair to say we need to find out more. Why we're still here, what the area outside this room looks like, what they plan to do with us. We'll figure the rest out when we get there."
"Kay," Sarah yawned, and leaned over to rest her hand in her hands.
"If you're tired, I'll sit and stand guard or whatever, I'll wake you if I hear anything." She just nodded and laid back on the hard ground.
So there I sat, staring at the window. Nothing moved, nothing happened. It was like someone had turned the world off. The only thing I heard was Sarah breathing deeply and the odd dripping sound, like a leaky faucet.
After about three hours Sarah rolled over, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. "Your turn," she said sleepily.
I couldn't argue with that. I leaned back onto the ground, resting my head on my arm. It didn't matter how scared I was, I was so tired that within minutes I was out like a light.
"Flick, Flick!" I heard a way too loud voice say from behind me.
"Mom I," I rolled over to see Sarah staring back at me, "Oh, right. What is it then?"
"Listen," she replied, tilting her head towards the metal door.
Muffled footsteps and quiet voices slithered through the minuscule crack under the door. " We can't just let them go, they know too much. Do you want them going to the feds?" a female voice echoed loudly.
"No but-"
The girl cut him off quickly. "The first bitch was way to calm to not know anything. Take her over there," she paused, no doubt pointing, "and I'll deal with her since you two know nothing."
My stomach knotted and my breathing sped up. A single tear ran down my face and I turned to Sarah just before keys started to rattle in the lock.
"It's going to be okay," she sputtered, "they probably just want to talk." She stopped, her eyes widening as she stared, stunned in the direction of the door.
"Time to go sweet heart.' came a slightly British sounding voice from behind me. A dark skinned, well muscled man grabbed my hair painfully and dragged me towards the thresh hold, not giving me time to stand up. "We're gonna have a little fun."
