once upon a time, one to many angels fell from the sky. but now, he was finally going back to heaven.
phil lester sat in front of the tombstone.
he couldn't believe it.
it had been four days since daniel james howell died. four days and he still couldn't believe it.
no matter how long he screamed and cried, he would never see dan smile again. he read the note hundreds of times, memorizing the pattern of the smeared ink caused by his left hand.
he took the ring off of his finger before he was buried. phil now wore it on his.
maybe if he had said yes, dan would be here now. maybe if he had said yes, his best friend would still be here.
but he was foolish.
he was afraid.
he remembered their first date together. it was phil's favorite day. he loved the way dan's eyes glowed in the sun. he always thought they were boring; phil disagreed. they weren't just brown; they were brown, but they had specks of red and gold. they resembled the sunrise, unfortunately, he was never awake to see them at their peak.
but the sun was now setting again, and the stars could be seen in the darkness.
he looked up and thought of him. he remembered the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed. the dimples on his cheeks when he smiled. the way he looked when he thought phil couldn't see him. his curly hair that he hated so much. everything about him was perfect.
he knew dan was an angel; still watching over him.
he saw the stars and knew dan could see them too.
he looked up, and fell in love all over again with the idea of a happy ending.
