It was a few days before thanksgiving and I had to go home. I didn't want to but I had to. My parents didn't know that I wasn't coming home for Christmas and I knew they would be mad. In the past few weeks life had been simple. Nothing eventful happened except that I had my dosage of antidepressants brought up.
"Happy thanksgiving guys!" I yelled out my car window as I waved goodbye to my friends. Durning my drive I sang to the radio and wasn't surprised when I got weird looks from people passing me. I didn't really care I had to be as happy as possible. This was the first time I was going ban home since Nick died. I felt little pains in my stomach as I got closer. My mom told me that every one was doing well and that everyone had moved on. I hadn't though. He was all that I had for 2 years and then he was just torn from my life. I can't just be ok with it. I pulled over to a motel for the night.
The next morning after I finally got back to New Jersey I felt butterflies in my stomach. I didn't know what to expect when I pulled up to my house. It looked the same. As I got out of the car I saw Harry in the window wagging his tale. It kinda felt good to be home. As I grabbed my suitcase the front door was pulled open by Jackie and Elizabeth came running down the steps.
"Sarah!" She yelled. She had gotten so big in the past 4 months. Her hair was longer, all her baby teeth had finally come in, and she was running faster than before.
"Elizabeth how's my chickadee?" I asked picking her up.
"Good!" She said giving me a kiss.
"Hey!" Jackie called from the steps. I put Elizabeth down and she ran for the front door. I brought my suite case into the house and Harry came running for me. I forgot how big he was and he tackled me to the floor licking my face. When I stood up I saw Parker standing in the doorway. He gave me a nod and walked back into the living room. I knew he was high just by the way he looked at me.
"Stupid pot head." I mumbled under my breath.
"Little bear!" My mom yelled as she walked in giving me a hug.
"Hey mom." I said.
"You look so pretty. Your hair is beautiful but I thought we agreed you weren't going to dye it." I rolled my eyes at her.
"No mom you told me never to dye it. I wanted to dye it since my freshman year." I said.
"Well it looks pretty. So how have you been?" She asked walking me into the kitchen. I sat down at the island and she brought me a can of soda.
"Good. My classes are really interesting this year. My job is going well, and yeah things are good." I said. I felt my hand reach up and start playing with the ring around my neck.
"Sarah why are you wearing that?" My mom asked looking at my hand.
"Oh my friend Logan thought it would look better as a necklace then to have it just lay on my dresser." I said looking at it.
"Sarah you need to move on." My mom said pulling things out of the fridge.
"It's not that easy! I can't just move on. He was my life for 2 years. It's hard." I said feeling tears prick my eyes. Great I had only been here for less than an hour and she was already telling me to move on.
"I know Sarah but you have to try." She said.
"I'm really tiered I'm gonna go lay down." I said standing up as leaving the room. When I pulled my suitcase past Parker's room I could smell pot. Just like old times. My mom criticizing me, Jackie and Elizabeth still living here, and Parker getting high 24/7. Man I loved the holidays.
When I woke up from my nap it was 9:30. So they didn't even bother to wake me up for dinner.
"Hey." I said walking by Jackie in the living room.
