Chapter 12

Later that day, Jace walks into the room to see Alec and I staring intently at the TV.

"Um..." he says.

"Go away!" I yell. "They're about to prove the guy guilty!"

"What?"

I sigh, grab the remote, and hit the pause button. "What do you want?"

"We're going to Pandemonium, remember?"

"Oh," Alec sighs. "Right."

"You can finish watching your show tomorrow."

"But we can't take another day-long break tomorrow."

"I'll buy a TV and put it in my room," I say. "Then we can just sit and binge-watch every night."

"Yeah, if anyone finds me in your room they'll kill me."

"Not if we keep the door cracked open."

"Just like the cops crack the cases?"

I burst out laughing. "We'll figure this out later, we've really gotta get ready for Pandemonium."

He turns to look at Jace. "I'm not exactly comfortable with my girlfriend tricking other guys into thinking she'll sleep with them on our anniversary. Well, I'm never exactly comfortable with it, but still."

Jace sighs. "Alec, you know nothing is gonna happen."

"There was that one time-"

"It was one time! And it was a Greater Demon!"

"She almost got raped!"

"Guys!" I yell. "Stop fighting. You," I point to Jace then continue, "go get ready. You," I point to Alec then continue, "stop worrying. It's just an eidolon, we've fought dozens of these. Plus, I'm gonna try to talk Izzy into taking care of it so I don't have to do anything."

Alec sighs. "Okay..."

"Alec, this is our job. This is what we do. And I'm sorry, but that's the most effective way to do it. But you know that though I'll flirt with some demons and Downworlders, I'll always come back to you."

He smiles slightly at me. "All right. Go get dressed, I'll see you in a few minutes."

I kiss him on the cheek then head off to my room.

"Hey," Izzy says. She's standing in front of my door.

"Hi. I've gotta get ready, we'll talk in a minute."

She holds out her hand, revealing an outfit. "Try this."

I hold out the outfit, and it's a black two-piece outfit. "Izzy I-"

"It'll get it done quicker and more efficiently."

I sigh. "Well I guess that's a no to asking you to do all the flirting."

She sighs. "Charlotte, this is our job."

"I know," I sigh. I take the clothes she handed me, go into my room, and get changed. Once I'm changed, I head down to the weaponry.

"You're just mad that a demon will come closer to getting into her pants than you will," Jace says to Alec.

"What?" I say as I walk over to then. "Jace that is disgusting."

"Jace," Alec sighs. "We're not even eighteen."

"Neither is Izzy, but that isn't stopping her."

I shake my head. "You are a pig."

He looks at me. "Doesn't look like it'd be hard for anyone to get in there."

I grab Alec's arm and take a step behind him. "I'm gonna kill Izzy."

"Why is that?" Izzy asks as she enters the room, carrying two long trench coats.

"Because I look like a damn hooker," I answer while taking one of the coats and putting it on.

"We're wearing the exact same outfit."

"Yeah, but you're used to being dressed like this. I never dress like this unless I'm hunting, and I'm never this revealed."

She sighs. "Just wear it this one time."

I sigh. "Whatever. If we're going, let's go."

"If we get back early we can watch more NCIS," Alec says while turning to me.

I nod. "We're gonna watch more NCIS, no matter what time it is. Even if we get back at two in the morning, we're watching NCIS."

"I'm perfectly okay with that."

"Oh god," Izzy sighs. "What've I done? I shouldn't have gotten you those DVDs."

I roll my eyes as I adjust my dagger sheath in my boot. Yeah, Alec got me a sheath for my birthday to hide in my boot, because my dagger kept cutting my leg.

Izzy smiles and puts a wig on her head.

"What?" I ask her. "Why the white wig?"

"It's platinum," she says to me.

"Good thinking," Jace says to Izzy, deciding to join the discussion again. "Demons dig blondes."

"It's platinum," Alec and I say in unison.

I sigh. "Let's just go, get this over and done with."

"You just wanna come back so you can make out with my brother while watching NCIS," Izzy says to me with a slight chuckle.

"Well it is our one year anniversary," Alec says while putting his arm around me.

"Let's just get going," I sigh. "The sooner we go, the sooner we're back."
