Chapter 9: Ashley's Problem

"Ashley! Ashley breath... Just calm down." Maya said to the heavy breathing girl.

"It's gonna be ok, just look at me. Ok? Calm down." Maya said again.

"How can I calm down? I have all these exams and papers that I don't even know how to start and a-and... And I need t-" Ashley started to have shortness of breath.

"Ashley breath deep. Slow.." Maya tried to calm her down again.

As Ashley was starting to calm down Maya went to get her a glass of water.

"Here, drink." Maya said handing her the cup.

"Thank you Maya. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." Ashley said making Maya furrow her eyebrows.

"Sorry for what?" Maya said hugging Ashley.

"For making you deal with all of this." Ashley said sniffling.

"It's ok Ashley, I'm here whenever you need me." Maya said with a slight smile.

"Thank you."

Riley and Maya were now making out in Riley's room.

"Wait stop stop stop stop" Maya stopped them.

"Is there something wrong?" Riley asked.

"I just... It's Ashley. I feel really bad about doing this with you when Ashley is..."

"Maya I'm having a really hard time understanding what Ashley has or doesn't have..." Riley said slowly.

"Are you saying that I'm lying?" Maya asked shocked.

"No! It's just that I don't get why you can't tell me what's wrong with her." Riley said frustrated.

"I told you I can't tell you right now why won't you just let it go??"

"Because Maya, if I don't know what's wrong I can't help."

"SHE HAS ANXIETY OK?!" Maya yelled. "She has anxiety..." She said again, calmer. "And it's really bad ones too. She can be fine one minute and choke the next. Sometimes she needs to go to the hospital so they can give her some type of drug that will calm her down. Not to mention she's been sad lately and I'm worried that she's depressed. That's why I need to be there for her. I need to support her and help her through this."

"I'm so sorry Maya I didn't know." Riley said quietly.

"Whatever." Maya said and got ready to climb through the window to her house.

"Maya wait.. I'm sorry ok? I'm sorry. Whatever you need I'm here ok?" Riley said looking into the baby blue eyes that were now tearing up.

Riley hugged Maya and Maya hugged her back.

"Stay for the night." Riley suddenly said.

"What?"

"Stay. Please?" Riley asked.

"Ok. Come on, let's go to bed." Maya said and pulled the covers to get into Riley's bed.

That night, Riley couldn't sleep at all. The guilt she felt because of Ashley was too much for her to bare. Even the thought of Riley causing Ashley sadness worried Riley so much that her thoughts wouldn't let her sleep, which resulted in Riley sleeping in and not waking up Maya, so now both girls accidentally skipped school.

"Riley we're late!" Maya said after looking at the clock.

"Get up! We need to get to school!" She ushered again.

Riley simply replied with a muffled "no."

"What do you mean no??" Maya asked putting her shoes on bouncing on one leg.

"I mean I haven't slept all night so can you just shut up thank you." Riley said and put her head back in her pillow.

"Why didn't you sleep?" Maya said stopping from getting ready for school and sitting on Riley's bed.

Riley fully sat up now and began explaining why she haven't slept last night.

"Don't worry I'm sure that Ashley doesn't know and she's not sad about this." Maya said calmly.

"And that's better?" Riley said coldly, looking into Maya's eyes.
