Chapter 11: I Guess This Is Goodbye

The girls didn't speak to each other for several days that felt like forever to both of them. They wouldn't admit it, but they couldn't wait to talk to each other again.

Maya and Ashley were hanging out at Ashley's room.

"Maya," Ashley said as Maya was scrolling through tumblr.

"Yeah?" Maya said looking up.

"Listen I think we need to talk." Ashley said keeping her gaze on the floor.

"Is everything ok?"

"Uhh yeah, yeah. It's just... I think we're not really..."

"What do you mean? Is it the anxiety? I ca-"

"No Maya it's not the anxiety." Ashley cut her off. "I think we need to break up." She finally said.

"What? Why? Did I do something?" Maya quickly said.

"No Maya you didn't do anything. I just.. Don't have that thing anymore. The thing that I feel every morning when I wake up, craving you. I just don't feel it anymore. I really care about you, but I... I'm sorry Maya."

"I'm sorry too. I'm sorry I wasn't there enough for you. "

Even though that wasn't what Maya was sorry about, she was sorry for not being there for Ashley too.

"I just want to tell you that you mean so much to me, even if we're not together." Ashley said.

"You mean a lot to me too..." Maya said slowly.

"Then I guess this is goodbye." Ashley said, light tears in her eyes.

Maya moved closer and hugged Ashley.

"Bye." Maya said.

"Bye."

After that Maya went out of Ashley's house and to her own home.

Maya knows she should be devastated but she can't help but feel.. Relieved.

"Hey." Maya said to Riley that was about to get in her car at the school's parking lot

"Hi..."

"Listen I think you should know something." Maya said slowly.

"Uh ok.." Riley said.

"Ashley and I... We broke up. Well she dumped me." She said looking at the ground.

"I'm sorry." Riley lied.

"No you're not." Maya retorted.

"Fine I'm not. Is it bad that I'm actually happy that she broke up with you?" Riley said with a smirk you could barely see.

"Yes. No. I don't know. But I was weirdly relieved."

Riley nodded, deciding to let Maya say what she wants before commenting.

"There's gotta be something wrong with me. What kind of person is actually happy their girlfriend broke up with them??"

"Hey, there's nothing wrong with you. It's totally understandable. You didn't feel the same way anymore and you were too nice to tell her that." Riley tried to calm Maya down.

"I was too nice to tell her but I went and cheated on her. Great.." Maya said, letting a small sad chuckle out.

"So what are we gonna do?" The red haired said quietly.

"About what?"

"About us."

"Listen Riley, I don't think I'm ready for another relationship right now with everything that's happened."

"I understand. If you change your mind you know where I am." Riley said and pulled Riley into a hug. They pulled back, staring into each other's eyes.

Riley slowly leaned in and kissed Maya passionately.

"I really hope you change your mind. Bye Maya." Riley said and walked away.
