Chapter Two: A New Friend...?
Ever since that day (Y/N) met Trunks and Goten in the fields, they have been best friends. (Y/N)'s feelings towards Goten started out as admiration, but soon grew into love over the years. She always wondered if he felt the same way about her.
The trio always arranged to meet up to play or study together. Since Trunks was the eldest among the three of them, he would be the one supervising the younger ones and helping them out in homework.
One day, ten-year-old (Y/N) was at the Briefs's residence again, setting up all her materials on the table in Trunks's room. She had some tests coming up and needed extra help, especially in (L/F/S).
Trunks, who was now fourteen, walked into the room, carrying some sandwiches. However, Goten was not behind him, which was not what (Y/N) expected. He was usually trailing behind Trunks, carrying his huge stack of books.
"Where's Goten?" (Y/N) asked.
"He said he needed to pick up a friend to study with us," Trunks said, setting down the sandwiches.
(Y/N) took one of them and ate it. It was a chicken sandwich, tender and juicy to the core. She hoped this "friend" that Goten made was not a girl.

After ten minutes of studying, Goten walked into the room followed by a girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a yellow dress with a brown belt.
"Hey guys," Goten, who was now eleven, smiled brightly as he said, "This is my friend, Valese."
"It's nice to meet you," Valese said with a dazzling smile.
***
Throughout the study session, Valese was flirting with Goten, twirling her hair and hugging his arm. (Y/N) felt disgusted, rejected and hurt. It was quite obvious that they were dating. She wiped away her tears on the back of the sleeve of the jacket she was wearing.
"(Y/N)?" Trunks said, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah..." (Y/N) answered, "I'm f-fine..."
She stood up and began packing her things.
"Where are you going?" Goten asked.
"It's getting late and I have to go home," she said quickly, shoving the last book into her bag, "I must go now. Bye."
Quickly, she whirled around and rushed out of the room and down the stairs. Bulma was talking to Chi Chi in the living room and (Y/N) happened to pass by them.
"(Y/N)? Why are you going home so early?" Bulma asked, stopping (Y/N) in her tracks.
"It's getting late," (Y/N) said, "Thanks for having me, Bulma-san, but I really must dash now. Bye!"
She rushed to the exit, opened the door and hurried outside. She stayed relatively far from the Briefs's house and rather close to the Son's. She was grateful she had learnt how to fly previously from Goten.
Goten.
That name just made her want to cry all over again.
She blinked back her tears as she used her ki to rise into the air. Steeling herself, she flew back home while crying. It was obvious to her how Goten had treated her. As a sister. A friend. No more, no less.
And that is what they will ever be.
Friends.
