"Cress, wake up!"
Cress slowly opened her eyes, even though the room was dark, she recognised a silhouette above her. Thorne was hovering above her, a twinkle in his eyes that she didn't recognise.
She covered a yawn with her hand as she sat up, while simultaneously trying to pat down her hair with her other hand.
"What is it?" Cress asked, her voice still sounding sleepy.
"Come on! You need to get up and get dressed. Oh and you need to put something warm on, scarf, gloves, boots, a hat, just something warm!" Thorne exclaimed.
"Okay?" Cress said, she stood up, leaving Thorne on the bed, and walked over to the window to open the curtains, trying to let some light into the dark room.
"No!" Cress paused as Thorne came running over, acting as a barrier between her and the window.
She stretched her neck so that she could look up at him, "What is it now?"
"It's a surprise." He said simply
Cress sighed, rolling her eyes, "Fine, fine. I won't look out the window."
Thorne smiled, "Good girl," making Cress scowl up at him, before he pulled her into a hug in which he rested his chin on her head. "Now go get dressed," he said, releasing her.
Cress took her clothes into the bathroom. As she glanced up at the mirror she noticed a slight blush in her cheeks and a smile on her lips. Cress laughed quietly and shook her head before beginning to get ready.
They had stayed in this cabin for a few weeks already. Cress thought that Thorne was reluctant to go, as if he was waiting for something.
Whenever she mentioned leaving he would always put it off. Cress didn't think much of it, after all she enjoyed it here too.
They were in a small wooden cabin in the middle of a forest in Canada. There was a small village not far from where they were. However, the only sounds that they could here was the birds chirping outside.
It was peaceful, definitely a change from the government buildings where they have been delivering the letumosis cure. Of course Cress knew that they were saving thousands, even millions, of lives, but still it was nice to take a break. Being alone with Thorne was an added bonus.
Cress got dressed, following Thorne's instructions and not touching the curtain. When she stepped out into the living room, she saw that Thorne was already ready with a scarf winded around his neck and boots trekking mud throughout the cabin.
He jumped up off the sofa and flew towards Cress. The room was dark due to the closed curtains and Thorne tripped over the coffee table. However, in his excitement he didn't even feel it.
"Come on, come on." Thorne grabbed Cress' arm and pulled her towards the door. Before she could open it, his hands were placed in front of her eyes, practically covering her whole face.
"What are you doing?" Cress asked blindly, biting down on her laugh.
"No peeking." Thorne commanded.
He then pushed open the door and led Cress outside. She immediately felt the coldness hit her face. Of course it had been cold outside yesterday too but this time it seemed different.
"Are you ready?" Thorne whispered in her ear, his breathe warm compared to the coolness around them.
Cress nodded eagerly and Thorne removed his hands so that she could see.
Her eyes blinked to adjust to the brightness, the brightness which was enhanced by the white surrounding them.
The floor was a blanket of the stuff and it looked so soft that Cress wanted to lie down in it. It covered the branches on the trees, the bushes. Everything was covered in it.
Cress' eyes started to tear up. It was beautiful. Her scrambled brain took a moment to match up the scene in front of her with the images she had only seen from her computers.
"Snow."
