Claire smiled in triumph and turned to face Silas. "Well, go back and tell my mother that you couldn't find us. I still need sometime out here..." She shaded her eyes from the sun with her hand and narrowed her eyes at the horizon. "This is the easiest place I can find Lycidas...passing by."

"What!" Silas and Stella exclaimed in unison.

Claire put down her hand and glared at both of them. "What?"

"The mistress is mad at you two and she wants you home right now." Silas said.

"And besides, if we don't go now, it only worsens my punishment!" Stella stated.

Claire shrugged. "My point again. Things we do for love, isn't it? Like I said, we will wait till I see Lycidas." She turned to Silas. "And you, scram!" She snapped at him and the boy almost tumbled backwards.

"But something is loose in Pragoth, somewhere out there!" Silas said.

Claire frowned at him, puzzled. "What do you mean?"

"Your father and the men went out a while ago... I heard the two snake headed creatures got through the veil."

Claire and Stella's eyes widened in shock and Claire whispered. "Amphisbaena." They all looked towards the trees when they heard barking and saw the scary creature burst out from the trees. It was large, had two glowing eyes, a feathered body, two strong feet that were like the ones of a large eagle and a long neck that carried a serpent-like neck and its tail was also like a long neck that carried another serpent head and both heads had venomous fangs and black fork tongues that drooled slimy saliva.

The creature settled its eyes on them and both heads roared so loud that Stella and Claire had to cover their ears, wincing. Silas who was already trembling, started moving backwards, towards them, his eyes on the creature. "Um...girls, I think this is where we run for our lives."

They all transformed into wolves and Claire stretched her neck towards the sky and howled, they all turned and ran as the creature darted towards them, in great speed, with its long neck stretched forward and jaws opened. The tail head, curled over her back and did the same, hungry to consume.

Elaine who was in the living room, turned when she heard the howl and gasped. "My daughter!" She walked out to the front porch and Theresa and Karen quickly followed. "They are in danger!"

Karen shifted uneasily on her feet. "Elaine, you can't go out there. It's too dangerous, the men will handle it."

Elaine turned to Karen and handed Berry to her. "I have to, I won't let my daughter die." She leapt off the porch and transformed into a wolf.

"Wait!" Theresa called, darting to the edge of the porch steps. "Let me come with you, please."

Elaine turned and looked at her and then at Karen who translated Elaine's wolf thoughts to Theresa. "She said you can't keep up in your human form."

Theresa glanced at Karen, desperate. "I'll try. Just please let me go with you."

Elaine nodded her head in her wolf form and Theresa hurried down the steps to meet her and they ran together into the woods while Karen and Berry stared after them. Berry whimpered sadly and turned to blink at Karen who also looked at him, adjusting it on her hip so it didn't pressed against her pregnancy. "For such a large head, I'm surprised that you have almost no weight at all." Berry grinned at her and she drew her head back. "You are such a nightmare when you reveal those tiny teeth in a grin." She said and turned back into the house.

The young wolves continued running, eager to get away from the hungry creature who was hotly pursuing them. Elaine, still in her wolf form darted in full speed out of the corner and jumped on the creature, clamping her jaws on the creature's leg, the creature cried out in pain and flung her off, and Elaine hit the grass on her side and jumped up to her paws again.
