In the Centre of Darius' Lycan court, she stood, surrounded by a pack she hardly knew. She felt uneasy and felt like disappearing, if Nymphs had any disappearing gifts, perhaps, she wouldn't have hesitated to use it but there was no where to hide nor any place to go to. She was stuck here and that was it. She tried not to look anyone in the eye, lest all her resolve shattered.
The Queen after dumping her on a man who didn't want her nor a mate for that matter, had departed for the Royal Isle at dawn and here she was hoping she would fit in and silently praying in her heart that the people here might be more friendly than the ones in Royal Isle. She waited as she felt the weight of every pair of eyes rest on her. She heard murmurings amongst them but she ignored it and tried to concentrate or something else, anything at all.
"What can you do, Theresa?" Darius asked.
Theresa looked up at him and hesitated. "I...am very hardworking I believe and..." She answered nervously. "...I can heal."
She heard some of the lycans snicker amongst themselves, murmuring and the noise ceased when Darius raised his fist. He and a few others seemed to be the ones who took her seriously and did not show any form of dislike towards her.
"You said you can heal..." Darius continued, curious and interested. "Heal what?"
"I can heal almost any creature and any nature of injury." She said. "I can sew if you want me to, and at the mill too, I'm good with chores."
Claire who was folding her arms by the corner, snorted and turned away and mumbled to Stella. "Doesn't make her any better?"
Darius noticed Theresa was desperately trying to fit in. It was as if she dreaded returning back to the queen. Well, he for a start was not eager to return her to the queen, not when he had heard uncomfortable stories of how Theresa had been maltreated by the slut.
"You are aware that I, as an alpha, do not really own you, you are only my subject." He said. Theresa opened her mouth to speak but closed it back without a word. Darius continued anyway. "You belong to your mate and he's lord over you just like every mated female here are subjects to their mates. While you court him, my wife, Elaine will show you the ropes and help you adjust to how we live here. The mated women will teach you how to court if you so wish."
Theresa glanced around and found out that most of the faces were in the court were hostile towards her. The beta, the Alpha's wife and few others were not hostile, but a particular person was hard to read. He stood by the side door, his face impassive and arms folded with his eyes glued on her, she took him to be the Alpha's son due to the pack's totem mark on his bicep.
She returned her gaze to the the alpha and curtsied. "Thank you milord." She finally said.
"Elaine." Darius turned to his wife. "Please show her around if you are up to it. The rest of you are dismissed.
The lycans began to rise and exit the court, murmuring amongst themselves. Theresa just stood there not sure of what to do, as she watched them file out through the three doors of the court. She turned to her side and noticed that the Alpha's son, Astrophel, still hesitated. He stared at her for a while, leaned off the wall and unfolded his arms at that moment, then walked out through the side door he had been leaning close to.
Theresa turned in time to see two girls around her age approach her but Claire was a winter older than her. She was nineteen. Claire stopped before her, with a menacing look on her face. "Don't feel so welcomed yet, Nymph. People accidentally fall off cliffs or get trapped in troll caves." She hissed angrily and stalked off while Stella quickly followed leaving Theresa dumbfounded about what just happened and why someone she didn't even know would say that to her.
