Chapter 10 - Silent Auditions

Baila

"Are you sure this is it?" Damien signs once we've arrived. We were standing right in front of what was my mother's pride and joy- the Whiterose Academy. I looked at him incredulously.

"Seriously? This is my mother's academy! I mean you'd think I'd know where it was." I replied back still signing, with a smirk on my face. He rubbed his neck sheepishly.

"Sorry, I haven't really been to school in like eight years, so I am a bit rusty when it comes to schools; hence why I barely knew this was a school and I've probably passed it a thousand times." He explained. My eyebrows shot up, and I looked at him quizzically.

"You haven't been to school in eight years?" I asked in astonishment. That would mean that he hasn't been to school since he was twelve- I think.

"Wait, how old are you exactly? I've never asked. I just assumed we were the same age." I said looking at him directly in his eyes. He shrugged.

"Twenty-One. I'm assuming you are too?" He asked. I just shrugged.

"Close. Twenty. But let's not waste any more time, let's go." I said before motioning him to follow me as I pushed open the doors. As I did, a large lump formed in my throat I fought to hold down. A large picture of my mother was the very first thing I saw. She was so flawless; her glossy brown hair was tied up into a neat bun, and her skin didn't have a blemish on it. I was seconds away from bursting into tears before I felt a poke on my shoulder.

"Come on, let's get to that audition." Ace signed. I smiled gently at him before grabbing his hand and pulling him over to the security.

"Hello, we're here for the auditions?" I asked to the lady sitting there. Her slowly graying hair was pulled back in a slick ponytail and there were few wrinkles along her face. Once she looked up, her blue eyes shone in excitement. She removed her glasses before asking.

"Aren't you Julianne's daughter?" I sucked in a breath at her name before responding.

"Yes I am." The lump in my throat was getting harder to swallow, and tears began to prick at my eyes. However, the woman didn't notice my building tears and continued to talk.

"Such a shame, she was such a beautiful woman and dancer! Not to mention a mother as well! You know- " I cleared my throat, cutting her off.

"Yeah, she was." I responded, finding it difficult to breathe. I looked back at Ace to seem him giving me a sympathetic expression. I sighed before turning back to the receptionist, "Can we just audition?" She gave me a distasteful scowl.

"You can dance? I wouldn't have imagined that Julianne would waste her talents on such a rude child as yourself!" My eyes widened in shock. How dare she say such a thing! A frown embedded itself onto my face before I gritted my teeth and began to try and tell her off.
