Okay, I've pre-written these, so you guys don't think I killed myself or something. (And I don't want to be an ass.) I'm still taking said break, kay?
I think all bands change a bit between records.
My Chemical Romance got happier. Let's look at the three they're most known for.
Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was is quite ansty.
The Black Parade is somewhat happier.
Danger Days is actually quite happy, but still sad.
Fall Out Boy "Old School" is lighter than "New School" FOB.
I can't really do this comparison by albums, sorry.
But let's look at two songs they are know for, Sugar We're Goin' Down and Centuries.
Sugar We're Goin' down is sweet and lightish and appears to be about a guy who's in love and dating with a girl out of his league, and he asks her "Am I more than you baragained for yet?" in reference to the drama that the relationship causes. Him saying "We're going down" is him realizing that it isn't going to last long, due to drama and other poking fun at the couple.
Let's look at Centuries.
You can tell from the beginning that it's a heavier song, the beat and vocals are way louder, and I listened to both while writing this at full volume ('cuz I'm hardcore).
This doesn't talk about petty drama, it talks about being remembered, a pretty big thing. Bands don't want to be forgotten, they want to stay relevant for as long as possible (and make a shitton of money in the process.) And this is Fall Out Boy staking their claim, saying two things;
1. I'm back bitches!
2. Move out of the way 1D and 5SOS, the real band is here, and we're going to stay here for a while.
The song is literally saying "You will remember us for centuries. We're pretty big and important." Hell, when schools start teaching kids about shit that went down in the early 2000s, they'll probably throw in media influences from the time and that will include Fall Out Boy, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At The Disco. And probably emo culture because why the fuck not.
Speaking of Panic! let's talk about them.
Let's pick some lesser known songs this time.
Ready To Go from Vices and Virtues
and
LA Devotee from Death of A Bachelor
Ready To Go is really happy and light and something you could expect a younger person to listen to. It's really happy, and makes you want to go on a road trip with your friends and have fun before you get too old (the things you should be running from.) It's really a great song, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to get into Panic! or anyone that has only heard the new/ popular songs from Panic! At The Disco.
Now to LA Devotee.
This is a song that you'd find a young adult listening to, while they'll on that road trip with their friends. (Possibly to LA?) It's still fun, but it's a bit slowed down and mature. (Not like mature mature, but it has mentionings of wine and other adult activities in it.) It's a chill song too, and it shows that Panic! has grown up and stopped being so hyper, not that I don't like hyper. I really like where Panic! is going and I'm really proud that they have changed the least, but didn't have to break up and come back in order to stay fresh. Kudos Brendon Urie.
WHERE THEY ARE HEADED.
Panic! At The Disco:
Probably after a few more albums, Brendon Urie will stop before it changes to much. Leaving fans pretty happy and satisfied with plenty of songs to listen to that are all equally awesome in their own way.
Fall Out Boy:
I fear for this band.
In their come back years they were sticking to their old style, Save Rock and Roll was awesome and the YoungBlood Chronicles are epic as hell. THEN came American Beauty, American Psycho. The original album is and was wonderful, but they remixed it and did that collab with Demi, you guys know how I feel about that. They're trying way too hard to remain "cool" when they already are cool. They have MANY fans. Them trying too hard made them lose fans of their new stuff (I'd like to think one can not simply go cold turkey on Fall Out Boy.) and gained them "fake fans" that don't know of their history, their awesomeness and how really cool they are. The "fake fans" are attracted by hot band members and songs that are popular and trendy. They only know that one song that is from that one album that's played every two hours on the radio, and they just bought all the band's merch not even knowing all the songs on the damn album.
If they put out an album that is just them, I'll give it a try, but I, and others like me, probably will not like it. I hate to be a hipster and say this but, they're too mainstream.
TL;DRP!ATD: Good job growing up kiddo, you have good friends and a successful life.
FOB: Stop trying too hard, your going to attract the wrong people.
Have an awesome day.
