"We need to find them! I just know at least one apprentice survived!" Eaglestar whispered to Robinpaw. He didn't listen to the leader about staying in camp, about not helping any poor defenceless young cat struggling through the mountains. Since two of the elders went missing, as Stonestar reported, he had been worried about the numbers of the clan, with 5 apprentice rather lost, or dead, and 2 elders missing, the clan had been becoming smaller, weaker by the amount of numbers. Did Stonestar not care about his clan? His clanmates?
Eaglestar had his eyes gleam towards Robinpaw, showing her hope, determination, trust, worry, and a hint of lov- that couldn't have been it... A hint of... Adventure? Excitement? Grief? Sadness? Anger? An unknown emotion was shown near the end.
"We should go and look for them. Ourselves" Robinpaw mewed, looking into the deputies deep, warm gaze.
"O-okay! We will look through the mountains, across the river, through every path, near every tre-" Eagletail was intrupted by laughter.
"Eagletail! Clam down! Don't get carried away, we can just follow their scent" Robinpaw giggled.
Eagletail's ears went flat with embarrassment. "O-oh, Ya.." He muttered.
"Are we going to save these apprentices of what, grumpy elder" Robinpaw teased.
"Huh!" Eagletail became aware of his sad, disappointed expression, and stopped. He sprung on his long, muscular legs, his paws racing for the mountains.
Robinpaw raced to Eagletail's side.
Eagletail steadied his pace, to look for the scent of the apprentices.  Soon after, Robinpaw noticed Eagletail's pace slow, and she copied, being slightly ahead of him.  Eagletail looked at Robinpaw, as they neared a cliff.  Their were many cliffs in the endless mountains of CloudClan, but this one had an odd scent, drawing both the cats near it.
"What's that?" Robinpaw's head tilted slightly.
"What?" Eagletail was confused by her previous statement.
"Look!" Robinpaw insisted, flicking her tail to scraps of fur on a rock, scattered near the edge of the cliff.
"Let's check it out!" Eagletail mewed, his eyes locked on the edge of the cliff.
Robinpaw nodded.
Eagletail's nose was flared, it was taking into the air.  The crisp, mountain air filled his nostrils.  He focused at the task in hand, the apprentices. He realized the slight scent of Mintpaw! His pace quickened, the furs in his neck stood on end. He padded to the rocky cliff, and he unstealthed his long, cream coloured claw. He pricked it with his nail, and picked up the light gray fur.  He smelled it Its Mintpaw! They were here! He thought happily.
Eagletail ran from the cliff, being cautious not to fall off.  "Robinpaw! Look!" Eagletail exclaimed, showing her his claw, covered with the gray scrap of fur.
Robinpaw touched her wet nose to his nail, smelling the fur.  "T-that's Mintpaw's fur! They must have fell off the cliff..." Robinpaw gasped.
Eagletail nodded.  "Do you think they could have.... Lived?" He asked.
Robinpaw shrugged.  "Only one way to know" she mewed, flicking her long tail towards the edge of the cliff.
Eagletail walked slowly towards the edge, and he peered his head over.  He looked over, all he saw was boulders, on covered with dry blood.  There were no corpses of the apprentices, get the rock coated with dry blood. "T-they're not there!" He yowled to Robinpaw.
"They must be out there! They must be alive!" Robinpaw smiled.
"Well... They could have followed the path? The TwoLeg one! It's get for prey! I remember going there with Riverclaw when I was an apprentice, but there is a water fall... Should we check it out? See if they did go?" Eagletail purred
"Of course! We can't risk not checking anywhere, now that we know they're alive!" Robinpaw mewed.
Eagletail nodded firmly.
"Let's go!" Robinpaw ordered, as she started to pad away from the cliff.  She halted, and lagged behind, to catch up with Eagletail.
"S-sorry.  I don't really know where I'm going" Robinpaw went on.   "So, maybe you should take the lead.  My mentor hasn't token me here yet.  Well, a little brief climbing lesson.  But that's it.  I've been here once on a patorl too, but never to the 'path' you were talking about"
Eagletail smiled, warm and comforting.  "It's okay!" He purred. "I know exactly where I'm going, you'll learn soon!"
Eagletail took a large sniff of the crisp air, a tangy, piney smell reached his nostrils.
"The pines are coming soon. We are just going to follow near the cliff, to see the river, and when the river stops and drop into the waterfall, we should be nearing the path. Around the oath, there should be rocks, and many oak, maple willow trees, nothing else should be there! And the path is covered with dirt. We just need to cross the pines, then we will be at the cliff, so we can watch the river!" Eagletail explained the route. He looked forwards, out of the horizon, he could see the tips of large, dark green, pine trees. His pace quickened. He could feel Robinpaw's pace become as fast as his. The white and orange she-cat had arrived at his side. He gave a smile. He looked back up, towards the trees. He halted.
"These are the pines" Eagletail purred, as his pace became a good, steady speed.
"Can I hunt on the way back? If we find the apprentices of course." Robinpaw asked
"You can hunt now. This place is loaded with prey!" Eagletail whispered, trying not to scare away the prey.
Robinpaw smiled, and padded away. Eagletail wanted to hunt, but his mind was stuck on one thing, and one thing only, finding the apprentices. The pines aren't too big, soon we'll be on the other side. Then we watch the river, it should drop quickly. Then we should be able to see the trail. The apprentices, if they are clever, found the trail, and hunted, found shelter, and followed it. So we should go to the end of the path, and try to find them. I think there's a hill on the other side... Eagletail went through his thoughts, trying to remember coming to the path as an apprentice.
Eagletail looked away from his paws, deep in thought, and up at the end of the lush forest of pine trees.
Robinpaw stormed back to Eagletail, holding a proud stance. She looked at him. "Eagletail!" She mewed, muffled by prey "Eagletail, look!"
Eagletail whipped his head at her. In the smaller she-cat's jaw, was one water vole, one mouse, and a juicy thrush lay on her back.
"Wow! I guess prey is good here! I think I'll take Sparrowpaw to hunt here one day" Eagletail purred.
"If we find him!" Eagletail added grimly.
Robinpaw nodded, a sorrowfully expression across her face.
As the two cats padded out of the pines, Eagletail's yellow-orange orbs looked off the cliff. The raging river, splashing against rocks. With that tide, how would they have gotten across? What if they drowned in the river? What if they fell of the waterfall? That cliff may not have been the only factor.... A shiver shot through Eagletail's spine nervously.
Eagletail gasped, as his eyes caught water shutting off a cliff, into the void below.  The waterfall.  The path was nearing.
"Robinpaw, follow me" he ordered firmly.
Robinpaw nodded, her eyes becoming narrow, her expression serious.
"We're going to the end of the path.  Near the steep hills." Eagletail explained the plan to the eldest apprentice.
"Sounds like a plan!" Robinpaw exclaimed.
Both cats padded along the variety of Maple, Oak and Willow trees.  Eagletail slowed his pace as they neared the edge of the path.  He smelled the air.  He smelt Mintpaw's scent,   A mix of poppy seeds, and forget-me-nots, with a small hint of tree sap, the one on the fur, Softpaw's sweet, raspberry juice scent, Brookpaw's playful, pine-spruce scent, Blazepaw's coal-like scent, and Sparrowpaw's misty-dew scent.
Eagletail gasped, They're here!
