Chapter 17
"Mimi! Are you ready?" Megan shouted from outside the room. Mimi was still inside the room, looking at the mirror. Truth to be told, she wouldn't want to leave this room ever since she was wearing the red dress right now.
"In a minute!" Mimi shouted back. Truth to be told, Dylan had never seen Mimi wear a dress. But, this would be a great first time.
Mimi walked out and she saw Megan, Megan's mom, and Megan's Best Friend. It seemed silly that Megan had to have all this people just for Mimi. Of course, Megan already noticed that Mimi was talking about herself, but, she would never tell.
"Where are the boys?" Mimi asked Megan who was sitting crossed legs. She wore a black dress and black ballet flats. Megan wore her hair tide up but had a few hairs loosen up for style.
"At the party, er, um, ball. They're gonna be waiting for us and they expect us to be imperfectly perfect. Except for you," Megan pointed at Mimi. Mimi knew that Megan meant that she would be imperfectly perfect while Mimi would be the perfect one.
"Now, dears. Sit down," Megan's mom motioned for them to sit down. When Mimi sat down along with Megan's Best friend, people started coming in.
"What's happening?" Megan's friend asked.
"We're going to make you fabulous dear!" The female stylist who was acting gay said.
It shut everybody up. The first to be done was Mimi. She stood up and looked at Megan's friend and Megan's mom, who was having their hair done. Mimi kept smiling. She was excited for tonight. Mimi looked at Megan who was smiling much more wider than she was.
"Hey," Mimi called Megan. That snapped Megan's attention from her phone. Mimi walked up next to her and sat. She saw a video of what happens to be the guys changing into their formal wear.
She could see Dylan, hogging owning the mirror, Charles fixing his sleeves, and Oliver. Oh, naive Oliver who was still trying to figure out how to put on a clip on tie. Mimi wished that Oliver would be a little bit smarter so he wouldn't be called stupid.
"Here," Megan handed Mimi a black box. "It used to be mine, but now I'm giving it to you."
Mimi opened the box and saw a diamond crested black headband. Mimi was shocked as to how beautiful it was.
"They give that to the daughter of the most well know family of the Upper East Side, but now, I'm giving it to you."
"Wouldn't they know that you don't have it anymore?"
"Nah. I'm supposed to give it away. They make dozens of those if you lost one, except that, not one girl had ever lost one headband."
"So you mean that this headband had been passed on for generations?"
"Yup. But it’s alright. I like to be first Mimi. Remember that."
"Girls. Its time!" Megan's mom excitedly said. Mimi and Megan both stood up and went to the elevator.
The elevator music was very familiar. Then Mimi realized that it was a song by Maki's favorite band, FM Static. The song was "Tonight". Mimi had always liked that song. It was the song that was played on the radio when Mimi first discovered that she wasn't a tomboy.
Mimi was humming. Then Megan was humming. They both laughed as the elevator door opened. They rode with style of course. A black limo to pick them up then drops them off to the ball.
There was traffic. A usual thing in NYC, Mimi thought. Traffic wasn't a usual thing at Tulsa. It rarely happens.
After a few minutes of traffic, the ride was pretty smooth. They soon arrive at the event.
