Chapter 28
Jane's screams were terryfying Mimi. She was waiting along with Jane's family at the waiting room. Even from here, Mimi could here all the pain that Jane was suffering.
Mimi was gripping hard on her empty coke can. She was sweating like a pig and acting like a scared mouse.
Someone then patted her back and Mimi flinched. She looked to see it was only Jane's brother, Leo. Mimi blinked and smiled at him.
"She'll do fine," he said with a shy smile. "She wouldn't be my sis if she can't handle something like this."
Mimis sat up straight. "Giving birth isn't as easy as it looks you know, kid."
Leo laughed and brushed his hair away from his forehead. "I never said that it was. I just said that she can handle this and that you shouldn't be stressing yourself."
Mimi sighed and sank down at her chair. She gave Leo a look that say's thanks. Leo went back to attending his mother, who fainted when Jane's water broke. Everything seemed so surreal. Earlier, Mimi woke up with a headache and Leo came running in saying that Jane was about to give birth.
Mimi's phone began to vibrate. Mimi yanked her phone out of her pocket and checked to see who the caller was. Mimi recently got the new iPhone 4S as a gift from her parents. Andy was calling her.
Jane's father had said that Andy would be flying in here.
Mimi stood up and began pacing back and forth. She started chewing her hair. A habit, she had stopped doing back then but right now, it's making her calm down.
"Would you please quit what you're doing?" Leo said from the corner. He had his eyes narrowed at her and he doesn't look at all too happy. "It's freaking me and my mother out."
"Sorry," Mimi said and sat down again. This time, she began tapping her foot nervously. Leo groaned and shook his head and ran a hand through it, messing his curls.
Mimi knew that she really wasn't helping Leo with his sanity but this was helping hers. After eight gruesome hours, the doctor finally came out of the ER. Everybody stood up quickly.
"How is she?" Her mother asked nervously. Her voice trembling. Leo is beside her and is rubbing her arm.
For what? To warm her up? Mimi thought.
"She's fine," the doctor said plainly. As if a weight had been eased off of everybody's shoulders, everybody sighed and practically sagged. The doctor smiled. "She actually wants to see all of you right now. She has someone she wants you guys to meet."
Jane's mother stood up straighter and smiled and thanked the doctor. Mimi stepped aside so the family could go in first.
I'd see Jane later after everybody has calmed down, Mimi thought.
Then Leo grabbed Mimi's hand and started dragging Mimi with him.
"Um, no, you guys go ahead," Mimi started to say but he just waved her off. Mimi tried to protest again but he just rolled his eyes and tugged at her hand harder.
Jane looks tired and sweaty and happy and in her arms she carries a baby wrapped in a blue towel. Mimi walked towards her slowly. Mimi stood behind the family while they all take a good look at baby James.
Mimi catches Jane's eyes and she smiles at her. Mimi knows what kind of smile it is. She's content and she's happy.
She pushed the towel down further and Mimi saw James head. He opened his eyes slowly and she saw that he has the bluest eyes ever. She can also see that he has a dark shade of dirty blond hair and he looks a lot like his dad in a weird way.
