Chapter 26

"Mimi!" Caroline greeted Mimi with a big motherly hug. Mimi had this weird awkward grin on her face when she hugged her mother back. "I can't believe you're here!"

"Why? Do you want me to leave?" Mimi pointed back to the door using her thumb. Her mother pinched her cheek. "Ow." Mimi rubbed her reddened cheek.

"You should go get changed and be ready for dinner. We're eating Asian foods tonight," her mother said.

"Alright, mom," Mimi said and she grabbed her duffel bag on the floor and ran up the stairs. She even forgot how heavy her bag was due to the excitement she was in.

Mimi walked to the hallway to her room. She passed by Dylan's. She decided to try and look at it, but it was lock. Mimi thought it was strange, but she shrugged the idea away.

When Mimi finally reached her room, she inhaled then exhaled when she opened the door. It was exactly how she left it. The dirty socks she wore on her 18th birthday was still under her couch, the half eaten pizza was still under her bed and even the teddy bear she owned when she was still a kid was still under her pillow.

Mimi threw her bags at the floor and jumped at her bed. She smiled while looking up at the ceiling. She had a mirror in the ceiling put up at her 16th birthday. It was cool because that way, she could always smile first thing in the morning.

Mimi rolled around her bed and snatched her diary under the mattress. She read all of the things she wrote before. She laughed at most of her entries.

She then sat up and walked towards her closet. She left most of her clothes here at Tulsa because she didn't felt like bringing all of them. She grabbed her grey loose long sleeve blouse and red blazer.

She then took off her clothes and started wearing the clothes she had picked. Mimi then looked for the perfect pumps, but decided to wear her black converse instead.

Mimi curled her hair and applied lip gloss. She was definitely ready.

Mimi got up and ran downstairs to help her mother. She looked around for her mother at the kitchen, but she was nowhere to be seen. She saw Matilda, her mother's personal chef, but only during the weekends. Matilda greeted her with a big shy smile, and Mimi returned it with an even bigger one.

"Looking for someone?" someone behind her asked. Matilda walked away and left them. Mimi instantly knew who it was.

"Yeah, have you seen Mom?" Mimi turned around slowly to meet Dylan's smirking face. Mimi gave her step-brother a neutral expression.

"She's out at Yani's house," Dylan said. Yani was Maki's cousin who only went to Tulsa every time she had a fight with her husband who lives at the west coast. "What took you so long?"

"Pardon me?" Mimi raised an eyebrow.

"Why'd it take you two weeks to get here? Usually you're never late. I mean, before. You were never late."

"A lot has changed since I went to LA, Dylan. You would know. You were a big part of that change," Mimi said bitterly. Dylan rolled his eyes and looked at her the way he always looked at her when she knew she pushed it too far.

"Don't make this about me. Or us. This is about Dad. Can't you at least be a little happy for him?" Dylan asked with a raised eyebrow.

Mimi sighed and looked away. She then heard someone calling Dylan's name. Mimi blinked.

"Oh dear god, please no," Mimi said silently to herself. She looked up to see Jane walking towards Dylan. Mimi hadn't laid eyes to the girl for a very long time.
