Chapter 27
Mimi was crossed legs and holding Jane's hand. For some reason, they became friends. It was February and Jane is due any time now. Her belly was already huge and she had to stop going to school because she was ashamed.
Mark broke up with Jane when they got back to LA. It was a little payback Dylan decided to do to Jane since she lied and kept secrets from everyone. Mark is now at rehab because after the big brake up, he turned to drugs and the police found him asleep next to a dumpster at a doughnut shop.
Everything changed when Jane's pregnancy exploded. Susie and Andy took it upon themselves to take care of the baby. They recently found out that it's a boy and decided to name him James.
Recently, Megan and Oliver tied the knot secretly. Mimi thought that maybe it was because Megan was also pregnant, but it just turns out that they love each other so much that they didn't want to let each other go.
Mimi envied them. She wanted that feeling back. She didn't want to date some random boys, which she did for the past couple of months. She also didn't expect that she'd be holding Jane's hand and they were sitting in a clinic waiting for Jane's monthly check up.
"Hey," Jane squeezed Mimi's hand. Mimi turned to look at her. Her hazel eyes seemed to look green under the light. Her hair had gone curlier, but she still looked very beautiful. "What's wrong?" she asked and Mimi smiled and shook her head.
"Oh, c'mon. What's wrong?" Jane asked again. She let go of Mimi's hand and crossed her arms together tightly at her chest. Mimi looked at her and thought back. She lost most of her friends because she decided to take Jane's side instead of the others.
"I can't stay here. And neither can you," Mimi said simply. Jane's smile faded away and she looked far away. She scoffed and shook her head roughly.
"I know that," she started. "That's why I'm leaving for England next week."
Mimi shot Jane a look. "Why? You're gonna be due any time."
"You think I don't know that? I don't fancy America, Mimi. I’m not American," Jane retorted. "And so are you, you know?"
"I know that," Mimi said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. She didn't need to be reminded that she was a stranger at the USA. She knew that she was Scottish. "What are you getting at here, Jane?"
"I'm suggesting that we go back to my place. I don't want to give birth here. I don't belong here, Mimi. I never fit in," Jane said sadly. She was forlorn and it made Mimi forlorn.
"You were in the popular crowd, right?" Mimi asked. She distinctly remembered that Jane was 2nd in command at their group. With Mark as the leader, she was like Michelle Obama. High School version of course.
Jane nodded and smiled at her. "Yeah, but do you think I like it? Tormenting people? I only liked the fact that people looked up to me, but I soon realized that they were afraid of me."
"Is that why you dated my brother?" Mimi asked.
Jane looked at her, then a nurse came out with a clipboard in her hand. She called for Jane and they both stood up, walked over to the lady and inside the office.
Meeting the doctor was easy peasy. After the check up, Jane and Mimi headed to an IHOP. They both ordered coffee only, nothing else. After Jane took a sip of hers, she faced Mimi.
"What?" Mimi asked, putting down her mug at the table.
"Come with me to the UK," Jane said and Mimi choked. She coughed and cleared her throat.
