The first thing Gwaine mentioned when he saw Merlin at school were the faint marks on his face. It wasn't that noticeable anymore but Gwaine was a protective and overly concerned friend. Merlin lied to him too but deep down he wanted to tell his friend the truth. He wanted to share his magic with him but they'd been friends for so long and Gwaine might hate the fact that he wasn't told sooner and he didn't want anything to ruin their friendship.
"I think Arthur's secretly jealous of us" Gwaine said and Merlin snapped out of his thoughts.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Yesterday he was constantly talking about you and how annoying I was and how annoying we are together. Apparently we stop him from concentrating in English lesson. As if he ever concentrates" Gwaine laughed and Merlin joined it.
"He can be a clotpole can't he" Merlin smiled.
"I've never heard anyone use that word other than you Merlin" he laughed. "You're definitely one of a kind."
"You have no idea how right you are" Merlin said.
