I go in the car, he opened the back seat. Heh, year right.
"Are you kidding me?"
"What...?"
"Sit up front, Cas."
He awkwardly made his way to the front and sat. I turned the radio on.
"Pink Floyd or Lynyrd Skynyrd?"
He just sort of sat there wondering what to do. Then, finally, he chose Pink. I put it on for him and started driving.
"My address is-" I put up my hands to shut him up. I had other plans. I stopped on the side of the road. It was sort of a lookout point for me, you could see the sky perfectly, it was away from all the lights.
"Get out."
He was still nervous. But he got out. I went with him and say against the car, looking up at the twinkling, enchanting, night sky. Cas looked happy. I know I was. The stars were a perfect setting for what I was about to do.
"Sit up here with me." I pat the hood of my car. He sat with me and I smiled.
"You like the stars, too, huh?"
"Of course." Now Cas was smiling with me.
Pink stopped playing, I changed the tape to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Cas seemed happier to listen to this music. He started drawing in the air with his finger.
"You see that?"
"Yeah." I cocked my head trying to find what he was tracing.
"That's Cassiopia."
"You're a constellations guy, too? What don't you have?"
He knew everything. He was smart and cute. And it seemed that he liked me. Huh. Opposites do attract.
"Do you know her story?"
"Do tell." I leaned against the windshield and listened to that voice I fell in love with, closing my eyes as I did so.
"Cassiopia was the most beautiful goddess. She sat at her vanity and bragged and boasted to the other goddesses over an over about her looks. The goddesses complained to Zeus multiple times, but he wouldn't hear it. He liked having her there, seeing as she was nice to look at. This continued for quite a while. Zeus' wife complained now. So he approached Cassiopia and-"
Now I remembered.
"He threw her up into the sky where she landed upside down and she could never be considered most beautiful again." I finished the story for him.
"How did you-...?"
"Know that? I'm a stars guy. Why else would I take you here?"
He smiled and I smiled back. 'Free bird' was playing in the car now.
"You like this song?"
"Yeah"
I could tell he did. I leaned over to him, I kissed him. Happily, I might add. I just sat there afterward, facing sideways, caressing his face by the jawline, I smiled. He couldn't see me smile, but I was. Definitely. That was the best kiss I had ever received/given. It was fantastic.
