Shizuo stared up at the night sky, hands shoved in his pockets. He watched as the gray smoke swirled up from the end of his lit cigarette. Freeing a hand from his pocket, he pushed up his sunglasses before continuing his walk home. For some reason, his mind kept wandering back to ______. He was thankful that he finally got decent help behind the bar, but he couldn't help but smile at the way she didn't run at the mention of his name. He reminded himself that it was only because she was new to the city. He sighed and dropped his cigarette to the ground. If she stuck around though, that would all change. He shrugged the thought off and put his hand back in his pocket. As he stepped on his cigarette to put it out, his head shot up.
He heard frantic yelling, followed by laughter. Just as he took another step to keep walking, he was cut off by three men running past him out from the alleyway he was about to walk by.
"Dude!! Run faster! That monster is gonna get us!!" one man yelled when they crossed his path.
"Monster?" Shizuo looked down at himself. Clearly they weren't referring to him... He was pretty sure the men didn't even know he was standing there. He leaned forward to see who, or what, it was that they were talking about. Before he could see anything, he snapped back. A light post came whizzing down the alleyway with such force that caused his hair to ruffle from the wind. "What the hell?!" he muttered while watching the light post sail past and collide with the three men across the street. With a loud thud that echoed through the air, all three slammed to the ground. Shizuo blinked at the scene that just happened before him in confusion.
Curiosity finally getting the better of him, he moved to look down the alley in hopes of seeing who threw the light post. He cursed when all he saw was a glimpse of somebody jumping over the wall. He couldn't make out what it was, other than it definitely looked human. He took off quickly down the alley in hopes of catching whoever it was.
Hopping down from the wall, he looked around, and was disappointed. Nobody who looked out of the norm. Then again, he looked like an every day human being too. He decided to give up and just head home, he was ready for bed anyway. Turning to continue the trek to his place, he bumped into something. Slowly looking down to see what it was, he realized it was some one.
"Hey! Why don't you watch where you're going!" it was ______. She glared up at him with a cigarette hanging from her mouth. Her glare softened slightly when their eyes met. "Oh, it's you again." she huffed. Shizuo fought back a grin. He hated to admit it, but he liked her spunk. She started patting herself down in search of a lighter. "What was your name again?"
"It's Shizuo." he pulled a lighter from his vest pocket and flicked it, holding the flame out to her. If she was right here... Maybe she saw whoever it was that ran off from the alley. He watched as she leaned into the light and puffed her cigarette. Once it was lit, she leaned back and nodded at him in thanks. "Say, did you by any chance see or hear anything weird?"
"No." she grunted, folding her arms over her chest while leaning against the wall behind him. He noticed her cheeks were pink, he figured it was from the cold air. He sighed in defeat and leaned up on the wall next to her, turning to watch the people passing by. He was really hoping he could catch whoever it was. He thought, maybe, they were like him... He was shaken from his thoughts when he heard _______'s irritated voice.
"Don't you have anything better to do?" Shizuo turned to ____ as she uncrossed her arms and turned to him.
After what he witnessed, he really wasn't about to leave the poor girl alone in the streets. Even if she was going to be stubborn about it.
"Not really, no." he shrugged, returning his stare to the street. He tried not to chuckle when he heard her let out a sigh.
"Well, it's late, I better be getting on home." _____ ran a hand through her hair, flicking her cigarette into the street. "I'll see you tomorrow." she called back to him while walking away. There was no way he was going to let her walk home alone, not in this city. Especially when someone else was wandering around with strength like his. He started walking closely behind her, and lit a cigarette.
