The bright, annoying sunlight is what woke Shizuo up. He sighed, eyes still shut, and rolled away from the light. He laid there a little while longer in hopes of dozing back off until his phone started vibrating on the table next to him. Reaching for it blindly, Shizuo sat up and let his legs swing over the edge of the bed. Opening his eyes slowly, he ran his other hand through his hair and peered around the room while trying to blink the sleep from his eyes.
He had almost forgotten where the hell he was. His gaze trailed over the plain, and empty sight of the tiny living room. A crooked smile danced its way to his mouth as he remembered that he was in _______'s apartment. His phone had finally stopped buzzing, so he stood up to stretch and check out the apartment a little more. There were no decorations, photos, or anything on the tables and white walls of the living room or attached kitchen area. Hell, the only thing in the whole place that was an indication of somebody living in it was the ashtray and a giant bookshelf with a few books laying in it. While he made his way to the see what kind of books she had, he reminded himself that someone who was constantly on the move probably didn't bother with such things. When he reached his hand out to pick a book up, he felt his phone buzz. Flipping the phone open, he saw he had 3 missed calls from Tom."Shit." he whispered, making his way to the sliding glass door to slip outside and call his boss back.
Once he was outside, he had Tom on the phone. Shizuo never even had a chance to say 'hi' or 'sorry' before Tom had begun ripping him a new one.
"Shizuo. Ive been calling and calling you, I'm even outside your place trying to bang on your door. We've got a big job in a couple of hours... Where are you?" Shizuo winced. He hated when Tom was upset with him.
"Sorry... My phone was on vibrate, and I'm not at home." he shifted his weight uncomfortably, realizing Tom was going to ask where he was.
"Jeez Shizuo, don't tell me you slept in the streets while trying to hunt down Izaya?" Tom sighed into the phone.
"No," Shizuo grunted "I stayed at a friends house..." he trailed off, instantly regretting what he said when he heard Tom coo into the phone.
"A lady friend?!" it took everything in him to not hang up, and waited for Tom to stop laughing. "Oh... Sorry man. That's just shocking." Shizuo could just see Tom wiping a tear from his eye.
"It's just _______." suddenly, he remembered how he promised her that he would talk to Tom about a job.
"JUST _______? The same girl from Russia Sushi? Shizuo! That girl is... Well, way to go man! I should've known by the way you were staring at her." Shizuo lit his cigarette and inhaled deeply. He was not staring at her yesterday...
"Look, Tom, I'll be there for the collection... But i have to ask you a question." Shizuo tried to change the subject. "Would it be alright with you if _______ tagged along today? I know we could use the help since Verona left. She really needs a job, and it's kind of my fault that we got fired from the bar." The silence on Tom's end made him nervous.
"I don't even want to know... And I don't see how she would be beneficial to us...But sure, as long as you keep an eye on her. She's your responsibility." Shizuo sighed in relief. Once Tom saw what she could do, he would jump at the chance to let her work with him. "I'll text you where we can meet up later. Don't have too much fun until then." with that, Shizuo slammed his phone shut, imagining Tom's laugher.
He turned to head back inside and froze when he saw _______ was awake, moving around in her kitchen. She was wearing baggy sweatpants, a tank top, and big fluffy slippers. He quietly watched as she shuffled around, pulling pans and other things from the drawers. She looked like a completely different person to him right then. Clearly comfortable, smiling to herself, probably humming... It was nice. He wont lie, the night he first met her she had definitely peaked his interest. Mostly because of how she just seemed to not care about anything... But right now, he couldn't help but want to know everything about her. What made her tick, what kind of books she reads, what were her hobbies if she had any? He was jarred from his thoughts when the door slid open.
