Something in Common

Shizuo's smile faded instantly when he turned back to _______ and saw she had started running off in the other direction. Memories of people witnessing his brute strength for the first time flooded his head. They generally ran from him, not the other way around... So why was she running? His heart sunk when the look of fear on her face came rushing back to his mind, hitting him like a ton of bricks. She was scared of what he would think of her. He couldn't stop his own feet from taking off towards her.

He knew all too well what it was like when adrenaline took over. It was something you couldn't stop. Kind of like how he felt now, running to find her. Shizuo kept cursing _______ under his breath for how fast her short legs were carrying her further and further away from him. All he wanted to do was catch up to her and let her know she wasn't alone, that she wasn't a freak, and that he wasn't scared. He felt a strange urge to comfort her... But how?
When _______'s building finally came into view, he slowed down to a walk. What was he going to say? It wasn't exactly the easiest conversation to have. He couldn't think of anything better than "it's ok, I'm a monster too!" Which wasn't what he wanted to say to the girl. He's only known her for a couple of days, but nothing about her struck him as monstrous. Sure, stubborn, maybe a little grumpy, but not a monster. Even if she's as strong as he is. He wanted to ask her a million questions.... But when he reached the door to her apartment, he thought that wasn't what she needed. No, right now, maybe she just needed a friend. It's what he would want in this situation. He hesitated for what felt like ages before he finally knocked on her door, praying for an answer.

________ was thanking herself for not owning a bunch of crap that she would need to pack. Getting up and leaving everything behind was something she wished you could put on a resume. A loud knock on the door startled her when she was pushing her clothes down, trying to zip up a suitcase.
"Shit." she muttered, panic growing inside her as she fought the urge to look through the peephole. Was it that Izaya freak? Did he follow her home, because those people are paying him to bring her in? Maybe it was the police coming to arrest her for tearing up a street in the middle of broad daylight. Her mind was screaming at her to get the hell out of Ikebukuro, and fast. When she reached to grab another suitcase she could quickly stuff full, they knocked again, harder this time.

"_______?" it was Shizuo's voice behind the door. She felt her eyes sting. If he wasn't running far AWAY from her, then maybe the man she thought was a friend was here to bring her back home to be tortured. She inched quietly towards the door, jumping when he knocked again. This time he banged so hard on it, she was surprised it didn't fall over.
"_______! I know you're there... I can hear you moving around!" That bastard, she cursed him mentally. Deciding to keep playing the 'I'm not here' card, she went back to her pile of things and bent over to jam them in her case. She stopped in her tracks when a loud crack sounded in the air, and something went whizzing over her head. She looked ahead of her in time to see something shatter from the impact of it hitting her wall. She blinked when she realized it was her front door. She spun around, rage boiling inside of her. There goes her security deposit.

"What in the HELL, Shizuo??!" she spat, narrowing her eyes into a glare at the man standing in her doorway. She watched as he brought his foot down and stuffed his hands into his pockets. She was ready to take off through the window if she had to. Even if he was here to take her in, she didn't want to hurt him.

"If you just answer your damn door like a normal person..." he growled, stepping into her apartment. Why was he so angry? Better yet, why didn't he run when he saw her throw that food cart like it was a tissue? A huge amount of money wasn't enough to keep anyone else from trembling in her presence... Is he really that stupid? Why wasn't he scared? She folded her arms over her chest.

"First you follow me home at night, now you just burst into my home un...welcomed...?" then it hit her. Shizuo, by himself, kicked her door in. No, not in. Completely off it's hinges, into her wall! Her eyes darted from the busted doorway to the door, now in pieces, on her floor. Her gaze lingered on the hole the door put into her wall before falling apart. She could hear Izaya's voice in her head.
