Untitled (Shizuo x Reader)

In Good Company

     The sun had nearly finished setting over the city of Ikebukuro, and _______ was smiling at how pretty it looked. She and Shizuo had finished putting away the last of her things, and were silently enjoying their cigarettes out on her balcony together. After Shizuo convinced her to stay, they didn't do much talking, yet the silence was one of the most comforting things she had experienced in a long time. The fact that she wasn't being bombarded with questions was something she relished in, and didn't even think to bother him with any questions of her own. It was his own business, and she figured her tell her all about it when he was ready to.

"Thankfully I wont have to work tonight's shift all alone..." Shizuo mused, resting his arms on the railing of the small balcony while _______ shot a playful glare his way.

"Oh? It's nice to know you only want to keep me around for help behind the damn bar!" she elbowed him in the arm as they both smiled. _______ kept thinking about how, in the last few hours, Shizuo seemed less tense. Her gaze moved back towards the people walking along the sidewalk beneath them, wondering if she seemed less tense too... Because standing outside next to her new friend, she couldn't remember the last time she had felt this relaxed around someone. 

     Shizuo watched the smoke from his cigarette trail upwards, twirling and intertwining with _______'s as she leaned forward against the rail next to him. He snuck a peek at her from the corner of his eye, pride welling inside of him for talking her out of running away. Until his eyes moved to the face of the huge watch on her wrist when she reached out to ash her cigarette.

"Shit..." he muttered, seeing what time it was. He watched while _______ blinked curiously while turning her head towards him. He wasn't personally worried that their shift started over 2 hours ago, because he always had Tom as a back-up. He did, however, feel a little bad for _______, given that she didn't have a fall back plan. Unless...

     Shizuo reached out and tapped the face of her watch a few times with his finger until she looked down, eyes widening.

"Fuck!! How could we lose track of time like that??!" she nearly shrieked, pushing herself back from the railing. Her eyes shot to Shizuo, who looked way too calm about the situation. "By the time we got there, we would be 3 hours late! We're so fired..."

     Shizuo tried his hardest to not let a smile crack when her hands shot up to hide her face. The way she panicked was kind of, well, cute. He placed a hand gently on her shoulder, letting the smile peek through.

"Calm down _______." he said, squeezing her shoulder lightly in attempt to get her to stop shaking her head.

"How can I? I've lost my new job, all while getting you fired too! This is completely my fault!! I'm SO sorry Shizuo." she finished, letting her arms fall to her sides in defeat. Shizuo chuckled, watching her stare down at the floor.

"Screw that place. What if I told you that i just might have a better job for you?" he pulled his expression into a serious one while looking over the frazzled girl before him. "Just give me a day, two tops." He thought about how he could bring it up to Tom, and if ______ would even want to join them in collecting. He watched as the girl moved her head slowly to look up at him, calming down. "Tom's a great guy, I'm sure he wont mind letting you tag along." he added, trying to make her feel better. Clearly Tom's name worked, because her expression went from stressed to curious quickly.

"What is it that you two do anyway?" she asked, fumbling with her cigarette pack. Shizuo shrugged his shoulders.

"You'll see." he huffed while flicking his cigarette into her ash tray, feeling his stomach grumbling. "Hey, want to get something to eat?" he asked without thought. All he wanted to do was change the subject, but couldn't help but feel bad for asking. The poor girl was probably sick of him by now.
