There was the sound of clashing swords from the front of the ship. I turned in the direction of the sound to see Jacob and a girl with black assassin robes sword fighting. I curiously made my way over.

They were moving slowly and the girl was giving Jacob tips. Jacob swung his cane sword and the girl blocked it easily, twin swords gleaming in the early morning light. "Good," she said, going at him with her own attack. "But make sure you don't drop your guard."

Jacob didn't respond, but he repeated the attack again. There was a flash of silver and the next thing I knew, Jacob's sword was on the deck. The girl smirked. "Good try Jacob."

Jacob scowled and retrieved his sword. "How about we just randomly attack each other?" he suggested.

That one comment got everyone's attention, and those who could made their way over did. I glanced back at Archer to see him smirking at Jacob. He looked like he knew what was going to happen, but was going to watch anyway.

The girl laughed and took two steps back. "Alright then," she said. She twirled her swords around so it looked like she was inside of a deadly ball of spinning metal. "That can be arranged." Her swords stopped when she was in a fighting stance.

Someone shouted from the back of the group of spectators. "My money's on the Shadow Assassin!"

The group quickly split into two sections, half of the group was cheering for Jacob and the other half was for the so called Shadow Assassin. Nobody ever actually said the young assassin's name.

There was a sharp whistle from behind us and everybody turned to see. Archer was pushing his way through the crowd. He had a sly smile on his face as the crew recognized him and parted the way. He stepped into the inside of the circle, facing Jacob and the Shadow Assassin.

"Just a random sparring match I assume?" he asked tilting his head.

The Shadow Assassin grinned and nodded. "Of course. You didn't expect me to actually help did you?"

"I was hoping that you wouldn't instantly start sparring with everyone," Archer shrugged. "I shouldn't have made that assumption."

Jacob leaned on his cane sword and sighed. "Just do whatever you were going to do Archer. We haven't got all day."

Archer shot Jacob a reproving look. "You shouldn't encourage her... Fine. Assume positions!"

Both Jacob and the girl crouched and held their swords up. Archer had clearly done this before.

   "Are you ready?"

"Yes," Jacob waved his sword around.

"Archer..." the girl sighed in annoyance. "Quit the formalities and just get to the point."

"Begin!" Archer stepped back into the crowd.

Jacob lunged forward swinging his sword to the side. The girl stepped the opposite way and slapped his back with the flat of her left sword. He lost his balance and almost fell onto the deck. The girl spun around to attack him again, but Jacob whipped his sword up, catching her off guard and hitting the flat of his blade against her arm. She hissed and jumped back as Jacob bounced to his feet. The girl ran around behind Jacob and put the point of her sword against his back and pushed lightly. "I believe I win."

The small crowd started cheering and the bets changed hands. Jacob stepped away from the girl's sword and looked toward me. His eyes clearly showing his annoyance at having been beaten by a girl who was younger than him.

I slipped out of the crowd and leaned against a railing. There was a quiet swish from behind me. I turned my head to see the girl coming toward me. I noticed that her swords, rather than being safely inside sheaths, were hanging from leather loops at her sides. A silver anchor pendent hung in front of her black robes. She reminded me of Evie, she even had the half cape. She leaned against the railing and I looked into her icy blue eyes.

"You're the youngest Inner Brotherhood assassin that I've met," I said looking pointedly at the anchor necklace.

She gave me a surprised look before she smiled. "I am the youngest, but Altaïr is the youngest Master Assassin."

It was my turn to be surprised. "You don't need to be a Master Assassin to be accepted into the Inner Brotherhood?"

"Nope," she fiddled with a knob on her hidden blades. "I certainly don't consider myself one, even if I did learn to use my swords from Edward Kenway. I'm Rook, by the way. Rook Sta- Wold."

"Henry," I said smiling. "Henry Green. A pleasure to meet you." What was she going to say?

Rook tilted her head. "The pleasure is mine." She looked toward the wheel and smiled. "I wish Archer would let me steer once in a while."

   "Why doesn't he?"

She grinned mischievously. "Because I'm not old enough. Sometimes I wonder if that's the actual reason, or if he thinks I'd steer us the wrong way."

I raised an eyebrow at her. "Would you?"

"Probably. My sense of direction isn't the greatest."

I smiled. "Has Jacob told you about the Rooks yet?"

"Yes," she sighed. "Did he really choose green?"

"I wondered why he chose that color. I thought black would be more fitting, or maybe brown."

"I agree. Green is the worst color in the world," she pause. "No offense."

"I didn't even notice," I decided not to tell her that Henry Green wasn't really my name.

After a moment Rook wandered off. She climbed up the mast and disappeared behind the sails.
