Chapter 6

I completed the finishing touches to my outfit. And this time I actually looked good, well because I got help. My aunt took me shopping in New York City in the afternoon. She picked out a cherry red dress that stopped mid-thigh. It hugged my body tightly and it was a sweetheart cut. I paired the dress with black open-toed pumps and feathered earrings that hid in my dark hair. I had bright red lipstick and smoky eye shadow. I stared into the mirror in the basement. The only thing that sucked about my look was my glasses. I didn’t have contacts so I had to wear them. But it wasn’t like they were circle thin dorky glasses that 2nd graders wear. They were rectangle black frames. I hated Steven having to sleep on the couch and have me sleep in his room. So I moved down into the basement. It was really nice; it had a flat screen TV, a workout station type thing, and a futon for me, closet space, and even a bathroom. I was so fortunate to have Mr. Miller and Mrs. Miller let me stay. This made me think about Mr. Miller. I’ haven’t seen the man yet…besides the time I saw half of his naked body. I didn’t even get to see his face or anything I got one second of the man and then sealed my eyes shut.

I walked up the stairs and snatch my phone that was lying on it. The red light was flashing notifying me I got a text.

Luke: I’m outside

I locked my phone and threw it in my black and silver clutch.

“Yea, I’ll get it from downstairs,” said a husky male voice. Once I reached the top of stairs I collided with a man.

"Well hello there, you must be Summer," he said cheerfully holding out his hand for me to shake. I looked at it and quickly shook it. His hands were strong and nearly crushed my fragile hand. His hair was slicked back with gel. He wore a solid black cashmere turtle neck sweater and plain blue jeans. He smelled of after shave.

"Yes, nice to meet you. You must be Steven's father," I said smiling a genuine smile. His eyes examined every inch of my body. I looked away nervously.

“I understand you will be staying with us for quite some time,” he said nodding.

I nodded, “Not for a very long time. Thank you for opening your home to me, I really appreciate it,”

”Oh, no need to thank us. It looks like you make our boy very happy. He actually even smiled at me today. I hope to learn more about you but I have to run, I just got called into the office,” he said and walked downstairs.

“Whoa you look so beautiful, where are you going looking like that?” he asked. His eyes wandered all over my body. I could feel my cheeks burn red.

“With Luke,” I said. His face immediately dropped. I could almost feel the jealousy rise up in him.

“Where are you going with him?” he asked.

“To a club,”

I could tell by his face he didn’t like the idea at all, just me being with Luke he didn’t like. I have no idea how but Steven and I haven’t gotten close over the past few days. And now he’s starting to become jealous and protective over me.

“Be careful please? If Luke gets drunk please don’t get into a car with him? I want you to call me. If anything goes wrong you have my number okay?” he said worried. I giggled and rolled my eyes at him. I ran one of my fingers through his soft hair.

“There is nothing to worry about! And you better not wait up for me,” I said opening the door.

“No promises…”
