The city is pacing with
Fluorescent lights darting their glow
Like spotlights in search for
The shattered, broken soul.

People are fast moving,
Haste is everywhere you see.
But in the room of an apartment
A girl lies lonely.

She solves calculus sums
She can never understand,
So that the dark thoughts
Don't crawl their way back in.

She watches crime drama
With scenes of brutal murder
And agonizing cannibalism to
Keep reality at bay.

She picks up her phone
To call her best friend
Then she realises it's a Friday night
Where everyone is having fun.

She doesn't want to disturb her friend
So she goes back to studying,
Which leads to agitation spurting over
Her inability to solve a simple sum.

She tries and she's tired of trying
Her hand is numb with either
The endless hours of writing essays
Or the incisions she carved herself with.

The tears flow from her eyes
Like the blood from her wrist
And with every drop lost
She turns fragile and stronger at the same time.

The cars are rushing back and forth
People laughing, oblivious to the moon
But if they only glanced up at the window
They'd see a girl who needs someone to hold.

-From a girl who is lonely and can only express her feelings in the form of unspoken words.
